I bought this beauty a year ago and at that time the AC system was flat.  I replaced a line that had a huge hole in it, pulled a vacuum, charged it with R12 and it started making cold air !!!! Oh happy days !!!

AC runs great until I take the transmission out of Park (and put it into Drive or Reverse).  At that point it just fan shuts down.  If I put it back in Park the fan starts blowing cold air again.

What the heck ?   My only thought is that it might have something to do with the neutral safety switch (it hisses when I put car in Drive).

Any suggestions ??

Did you reply in invisible ink?

No. Weird. It was a really good reply too that I don't have time to re-type. I'll sum it up by saying find the source of the vacuum leak & it should fix the problem: hoses, NSS, check valve, auto-release for parking brake, etc. All under the dash near the steering column.

I always write my posts in invincible ink...   ;-)

Superman branded invisible ink, making it invincible ink.... geez Tony, don't you know nuffin.

It might be time now to put Roberts thread back on track.

There is a vacuum circuit diagram on either page 13-20 or 13-22 of the 1964 shop manual - if memory serves - I don't have it with me at the moment.  That diagram shows that the vacuum to the NSS and the vacuum to the control head of the Automatic Climate Control inside the car, are interconnected. There may also be a check valve in the line.

Update -  See attached picture.  I found this line disconnected under the dash.  Thanks guys.  Air not blowing real cold so I'm going to check the charge.  I bought the bible on fixing 1964 cadi ac systems last year.  I have to spend some additional time with my nose in that book.

Thanks again.

That's good, troubleshoot first. Then buy parts.

No problem Tony. I've been called much worse : )

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your suggestions.  I have been troubleshooting the AC pneumatic system and all things point to the "rotary valve" on the passenger side interior.  I bought the $20 manual and it gives direction on how to recondition the rotary valve.  It doesn't sound too difficult.  Has anyone done this before and do you have any advice ?

Thanks .  Just got done refinishing the valve.  No big deal.  Not very intimidating (once you've done it).  Thank for the advice.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
