Which are best Shocks for 64 that are closest to Original in Ride Quality?

Hello All

I am thinking about replacing the shocks on my 64 SDV. I want to do so with units that are closest to what was originally in the car in so far as ride quality. I believe these were gas shocks from new, and especially don't want anything stiffer. What do most of you use?

My apologies if this information is/was previously mentioned on the site, but I am unaware of any way to search this site for content. If there is a way, I sure would be grateful to be informed of how to use it.

Thanks

Norm

Hi Norm,

For years my dad always installed the Gabriel Shock Absorbers at his mechanic shop in Brooklyn, NY.  They are very high quality and durable.  I think they give an excellent ride.

Thank you, Dennis. I grew up in Brooklyn (Coney Island), where was your dad's place?

Norm,

My Dad's shop was in Bushwick, under the M elevated train.  I was a car and truck mechanic there for about 25 years.  He was a master mechanic!!!

I have been running and selling the Gabriel Gas Cushioned shocks as a good new replacement for at least 20 years now!  The front shock is 82109, and the rears are 82125.   They give excellent "shock absorption and dampening".  The only issue with he Gabriel shocks has been that the upper stud on the rears are a bit short to get both rubber bushing on, and you have to cut one thick bushing in halve, or find thinner bushings. I simply cut them in half. The set that are on my car now, again have been there I'm guessing 20 years. If I had driven the car harder or put more miles I might swap them out, but for now they  work great.

I do keep a few sets on hand and sell these for $120 for all 4 ($90 with chapter discount), or $60 for just the front or rear set ($45 with discount). I know I have at least 1 full set on hand. If interested email me at jasonedge64@outlook.com.

ps. I can also "bling them up" with freshly cad plated hardware top & bottom for $40 ($30 with discount.

Thank you, Jason.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
