Hello All.
I believe the starter solenoid has gone bad in my 64 DeVille. When I turn the key, often all I get is a click, then if I try a few times again the starter turns perfectly. All battery cables are on tight and the battery is good. So, I believe this problem is the solenoid. Where do I buy the right solenoid and is it necessary to remove the starter in order to swap it out?
Also, in the event I am wrong and I need a starter-or it just makes more sense to replace the whole thing once it is out-what's the best place to buy one (remanufactured?)
I see them from Rock Auto for $50 plus shipping. Anybody have good luck with NAPA or O'Reilly or Auto Zone?
Thanks
Norm

Hi Tony. Doing great, thanks. My Studnick days are long past.

I have been running the AutoZone sourced Duralast for 22 years on my 1964 Coupe de Ville with Zero issues. I replaced it once, just because.. when I rebuilt my engine in 2012. I stock their solenoid switches as a convenience to my customers and sell them for $25 (or $22.50 to Chapter Members). I can ship 2 to 3 day Priority for $8. If that would be more convenient for you are anyone, shoot me an email to jasonedge@nc.rr.com. Looks like I have 4 on the shelf ready to ship right now.
Thanks, Tony (and Ginny)
Thanks, Russ. I found a solenoid at NAPA for $56 (seems high), but I am reluctant to purchase it because I don't trust their listing (the 64 DeVille starter they have listed has only TWO mounting holes in the gear end, while we need 3 for a TH400). Does the solenoid "fork" just slide right on to the starter gear train "collar" with nothing other than the backstop of the position of the solenoid to hold it in place? I've never done one.

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?
My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.
Many thanks,
-Samu

Hey guys,
I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
