Hello everyone,

Want to check my understanding of the battery cable hook up for my '63 Cadillac.

I have the negative cable connected to the negative post... then bolts to the frame just below the battery.

The positive cable connects to the pos post and then to the starter connection.     Also the felt washers are to be soaked in oil before installation onto the bat posts per the shop manual... anyone do this anymore?

The ground to radiator support should have no bearing whatsoever on cranking as circuit for cranking is primarily provided by the negative battery cable to frame;  then right frame rail to back of engine via that very large ground strap.

Items on the firewall such as horn, voltage regulator, lights, etc, could be adversely affected if other periperal grounding such as radiator support to fender to body to engine are not all proper. I've had the firewall to engine grounds disconnected and of course cranks fine but you have a lot of electronics in front and behind firewall that need a good ground.   The firewall to engine,  negative battery cable to frame and radiator support, and frame to engine all help to provide a solid ground for all electronics.

For anyone looking to add the small negative braided radiator support strap I can remove and sell a nice VG original one for $10.  They are very easy to remove and install as they are held in place by to prongs that you can pry back and remove, and simple crimp on new cable with large crimpers or large channel locks etc. I will do an addendum to my battery and battery cable writeup in the near future and includes some pictures and more details.

Most after market bolt terminal cables have a negative side wire at the battery terminal and you can also run the black wire back down and around to the radiator support.

Regardless I would not skimp on making sure you have solid cross-grounding between battery, frame, firewall and body, engine, and radiator support.

ok thanks Jason, I now see that the ground strap is missing on my car... will need to get one to install.

There is a small braided ground strap that attaches to bottom of negative battery cable that attaches to the radiator support below the right side forward lamp harness grommet as seen in picture below.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
