Over weekend, i intend to remove the block from engine.   I was reading manual on such and in the descriotion, of remove wo trans i became somewhat confused.   Is the flywheel.attached to the flexplate?

Do i also need to remove flexplate as i am pulling flywheel because the machinst needed it and HB to balance as i read they were externally balanced.

Im at the point of everything is off but the engine trans connection and engine to frame.  Any tip or suggestion not outlined in book would be appreciated.  Manual assumes a seasoned professional sometimes so there descriptions can be a little vague to a first timer.

Thanks in advance

Ok,  that sounds simple enough,  thanks

Flywheel attached to HydraMatic torus is attached to flexplate (also called drive plate) via 4 nuts as indicated in engine removal section. With inspection covers removed as indicated in prior step, you will need to rotate engine to access all 4 nuts. Read the shop manual, read it again and get under there with a light and you will see the nuts holding flywheel to flex plate.

Ok, got those 4 bolts undone.  To be clear, when the engine breaks free, is anything going to drop or fall out where I need to put some kind of cushion or pad to break the fall?.

Be sure to lock the converter. It might come out of the bellhousing.

ok, i dont know about locking converter, as it made no note of it so that will have to be explained.

Additionally,  after removing the four nuts from the bolts that hold the flywheel to the flex plate (i am assuming the flexplate is the brassy colored part that sits in front of and attaches to the flywheel)

Remove four nuts that hold flex plate to transmission flywheel.     (I DID THIS)

DO i need to remove these  other nuts (8) as i have circled in the picture??  I dont know enough about the order of things to know what is attached to what behind there and dont want to bend or twist anything.  ( i noted in a thread a few years ago, someone bent the plate upon removal) thus my question.

I dont see anywhere it says remove 8 more nuts, but wont the whole piece come out,, flywheel and flexplate,  the flywheel is behind the flexplate,  is that what i should expect to come out?

Kim, You don't remove the flywheel to torus nuts, just the 4 flywheel to flexplate nuts you have already removed. Follow the instructions exactly and you will be fine.
I think Cees is referring to removing a 1964 429 engine with the Turbo Hydramatic where the shop manual under the Turbo Hydramatic Engine Removal Section indicates to strap the torque converter to the transmission case since the Turque Converter, unlike the Toruse used on the Hydramatic, is loose and not attached to the transmission and will side off the front shaft if the transmission tilts.
Again, follow your instructions and you will be fine. If you make up new steps you will just cause more work for yourself.

Be glad to.  I hope to hook up to the engine and pull out tomoro...once out. I will remove oil pan, valve covers, front cover stuff for paint removal and repainting.  Taking flywheel and HB to mill shop tues so they can balance crank.  Hopeing pistons will come in this week so he can get the piston pins put in and cam bearings and camshaft put in.  In mean time, i wilget all the bolt holes and nuts worked on, clean out bay,  cut all the oil off the bottom of frame from the bearing leak over last couple years, and respray the bay area.

I hv put all my nuts and bolts in baggies and id ed them for reinstall.  So plenty to do whike waiting on pistons and remaing camshaft work at mill shop

At least thats the plan going into tomorow

I had planned on that.

Had a Casualty of removal today.  The engine was a real beast to slid off at the trans.  One screw end kept hanging up on the flexplate,   after acseries of lifting car, lowering car, lifting engine lowering engine, maybe 5 or six times. It finally came off.  In tge process. A shiny piece of metal that was on the shaft extension got bent off.  Looks like a metal s sleeve that sat under the flexplate.  I cked the transmission manual and i dontvseeva blow up of that part.  So, if anyone knows wat it is and were to get one, guess i need to get an order in.

On a second note, getting this thibg back in cant be any picknick.  Am i correct?

This is the piece i was referring to that got pulled off

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
