Hi,

is anyone using hi-jackers or similar as rear shocks? I did not find which type would fit 64.

I do not know of the correct or good air shock to replaced the stock gas cushioned shock, but if looking for a good stock type ship I have been running the Gabriel gas cushions shocks (82109 fronts, 82125 rears) for 25 years or more and am still on my first set.   The only thing with these is the rear shock upper stud is a bit short meaning you cannot easily get the nut started on the top. The trick is to cut one rubber biscuit in half and use the halves above and below the mounting flange.
If you are anyone are interested in them and cannot find I sell for $25 each to Chapter Members. I currently have 2 new sets front and rear.

Back to the air shock, if you suspension is sagging and needs to be pushed up, it might be time for new coil springs if they have not been replaced.  I replaced all 4 of mine with the HD springs available through Kanter way, way back and it set all 4 corner near the upper range if the suspension ride height as indicated in the Shop Manual. If you want it taller than stock, air shocks would be one way to make that happen.

Thanks. I think situations when there are several persons sitting on the rear seat. Rear end is then sagging and needs some extra strength to keep the ride height correct. I have used Monroe MaxAir shocks in 66 and 71 Cadillacs succesfully but can not find any for 64.

Have you replaced coil springs and did you go with the Heavy Duty version? I used the HD springs way back and they seem to support pretty well even with 2 or 3 adults in the back.

No, I have not changed them. HD springs is a good idea.

It would also be interesting to know where rear suspension "standing height" is at. Here is the Help Page for standing height: Click Here.

Note your car should fall between 5 13/16" and 6 9/16" per measurement procedure.

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
