So I am starting to crawl around under Dino seeing what I can fix or upgrade and as I was putting the trans linkage in a few nights ago, the rear trans mount caught my eye. I remembered that these 64 THM rear mounts should lift the rear up a bit but it sure looked flat. I had a sneaky suspicion the rear mount was flattened or busted.  The thing about the rear mount is it can affect the driveline angle and cause vibration, so it does more than just support the transmission.

Last night I rolled under the car and decided to remove the rear mount and check it out and replace with one of my new ones if needed. First, I found supporting the transmission while the car is sitting up on 12" wheel cribs is a real reach! I ended up using a stack of those small #6 postal boxes.  The protected the bottom of the pan and gave me the lift in needed!

So looking at my rear mount on the left in the picture below it was indeed busted. In fact the entire center rubber section had dislodges from the outside of the metal mount frame.  On the right you will see a new 64 THM mount with the raised area.  So, a new mount was installed and can at least tick that off.

Busted mount on left replaced with new one on the right.

New Mount Going In! Note the stack of postal boxes!

Rear Cross member installed.

This angle shows the lift the new mount provided.
Before it was just sitting down flush.

Jason,

This is AWESOME!

In fact, going forward, anytime anyone asks about driveline vibration, I’d almost always suggest this be the first thing they check.

When you sold me the used transmission, I bought a new rear mount. When we swapped everything over and new mount installed, this took 90% of the driveline vibration away. I attribute the other 10% to my cheap, Chinese, unbalanced tires.

Awesome to see you are still making improvements! In the summer, I find it hard to stay motivated to do odd jobs on the car as I drive my Fleetwood so much!

Cheers !

Nice work! I'm sure I'll probably have to tackle this as well soon. Were you able to get this done with the car just on jack stands?

My car is on 4 12" Race Ramp wheel cribs where it has been for several months and will probably remain for several more. I used a floor jack with a stack of US Priority Box to reach up and support the transmission from the oil pan. Raised a lower height the floor jack would have worked fine alone.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
