Hi

The original color of my 1963 Eldorado is Frost Silver. I can find the PPG and Dupont paint codes from the web, but at least here in Europe paint shops are not able to mix paint with those old codes.

Could you advise me: are you able to mix the orginal colors in the USA or does someone know a modern reference color? I know that one option would be to use the paint chart chips, but I have not seen a chart which would have had the fire-frost chips.

My car was repainted probably in the early 1980s, so there is not that much fire or frost left anymore. Therefore I’d be interested to know what is the speciality with these colors? Is it just a metal color with larger flakes than normally used in 1963 or is it some kind of pearl(ish) paint?

The 1963 Data book description is ”Fire-Frost is a recently developed bright flaked pigment that creates an unusually high iridescent radiance. Extremely thin flakes, but of a larger size than any previously used in metalliferous finishes, are homogenized with the basic acrylic lacquer. The light reflections from the many diamond-like facets of these particles produce amazing beauty and lustre.”

Thanks

Samu

Samu,

Mixing the old color codes with modern paint is done quite easily here. Check this place out: https://www.autocolorlibrary.com

I have not used them but they showed up when I searched and it certainly seems like they would be very capable.

Many thanks Ian. It certainly looks that Autocolorlibrary would be able to mix the paint.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
