Man, this thing's really making me feel stupid. What air filter are you all using for you 63 Caddy?
I've tried several at my local parts supplier and none seem to be quite tall enough. Wix calls for 42080 but it don't seem right. The old filter is right at 3.25" high and most I've found are 3.04" or so. Too much gap at the top when its screwed down. The number on the decal on the air cleaner is A 96 C. Do I have the correct cleaner housing?
Also, been researching drive train noise, and rebuilding the drive shaft. Has anyone in the NE Ks. area ever had their drive shaft rebuilt? If so, where? Can a regular shop do the job or should I be looking for someone that specializes in drive trains? The war storiies I've read here and on CLC is making me wonder what the heck I got into?? But, I ain't giving up the ship yet!
Oh, thought I post a pic of my old beater. Needs a bit of work to get back to a dependable driver, but will get there over time.
Any info appreciated.

Nice looking sedan! Try finding a good truck driveline shop to repair your drive shaft. They should be familiar with the CV joint and 2 piece design. I would verify that the mechanic has repaired CV joints like ours. Don't let someone not familiar with them train/learn on yours.
I'm in Arkansas, not too many of our vintage cars here, either.
Thanks everyone for all the comments. I went out and did some more checking of the new filter I have. It does appear to seal on the inside ridge. The inside height is 3.025". Its a Wix 42080. Guess I thought it would seal up on both sides.
Hey Robert, I'm also glad to here of another 63 4w owner fairly close. There has to be others out there in our areas. Maybe we'll see each other on the road some time.

I have 5 new in the box AF19 filters for $10 each + s/h anyone having a hard time finding them. Just shoot me an email to jasonedge@nc.rr.com .
Hello Tom,my air filter is right at 3"tall,seals well in the housing. It's Fram #CA173CI.I don't see it listed in the Fram site.I guess discontinued.I've not had trouble with my driveshaft but reading on this site would take it to a driveshaft specialist.Really nice looking beater.Pleased to see a 63 6339 only 1 state away. We're few and far between in the middle of USA.I think I'm the only 63 owner in Okla.Good to have a new neighbor.
I used new ones labeled AF19 on the box but say Type A63C on the filter. They are almost exactly 3" tall using the caliper. I was curious after reading your post so I put some red carpenter chalk on 4 corners on top edge of filter and placed the lid back down and removed and it was touching the filter on all 4 corners with chalk showing on all 4 locations. I would expect the wider ones would tighten down better but have not had any problem using the 3" tall ones over the years.

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?
My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.
Many thanks,
-Samu

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
