Got to spend a couple of hours working on the choke on carter carb. I was able to take it apart, clean it up and reinstall, but a couple of questions arose. Which side does the choke coil go on the lever? Also, is the fast idle cam have any side play? Also, how does the choke valve get set(closed) when cold start?

Hi Dave,
My 1964 Series 62 has the 4 barrel Rochester carburetor and I know you have a Carter. Depress the gas pedal all the way once, on a cold engine. Put the plastic choke spring on the housing and see how the lever catches. Turn it left a bit to close butterfly and then right to open it; see if it reacts correctly and the lever is responding. If it is, set the butterfly where it is only open a slight bit on a cold engine. After warming up for 5 minutes, see if the butterfly opens all the way - the spring should expand and move it freely. If it does not open all the way, car must cool down completely and repeat steps - turning slightly left or right on the spring plastic cover. Minor adjustments will do it. Hope this helps.

I depressed the accelerator once and the butterfly stayed open!? Also took a video of the play in the fast idle cam- is that normal?
By the way- Happy New Year to all!
Hi Dave,
Happy New Year. I can't see your video - it's not posted. If the butterfly is completely open cold, then your choke spring is not connected correctly. It is probably not on the correct side of the lever? If correct, it should be closed when cold. That is when you make the slight adjustment to crack the choke open for the initial start.

My 64 chock plate has a fitted bent end that the lever sits in.
I don't know if that play is normal, but is the butterfly freely open and close to the touch? Anything impeding it?
Dave,
I ran up the road to my 64 garage and I do have a bit of play in that cam. It might be made a bit tighter, but some play is probably ok. I still think your choke spring is not connected correctly to the lever. Try taking it out and putting it back hooking into the lever.

Dennis, thank you for checking your fast idle cam. And now that I think about the choke setup, I do have the choke spring setup on the wrong side of the lever.
Thank you for all the help!
Anytime Dave. If you reset the choke spring, look back to what I sent you before about setting the butterfly on a cold engine. It should be slightly cracked to start and when warmed up, fully open. If not, tweak it when it's cold again. Good luck!

Dennis,
I had time to run over and correct the choke spring setup and sure enough, worked as advertised! I took it for a 20 mile drive and no problems accelerating from a stop or hesitation when driving!
Thanks
Hi Dave,
This is great news and I'm glad it worked out for you!!!!!

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?
My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.
Many thanks,
-Samu

Hey guys,
I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
