Parts Cars #61 & #62 Rolled In Today &- Quick Check In on Things

Spending 3 to 4 hours a day with physical therapy with my knee and leg from the Jan 31 right knee MCL tear and ACL rupture has left me with limited time for car or other things but making progress on several fronts:

I have moved from a full leg bracket to a knee brace with full flex motion meaning I can sort of walk normal with the brace, but starting to gradually approach going up and down steps with a normal step. I believe I will be in this brace until about mid April. I have no clue how I will will walk and maneuver with the ACL ligaments completely gone!

Newsletter almost done!  I am almost done with last newsletter. I thought I would have it done a few days ago but have had zero time to devote to it. I still have to write my part and may include an additional section or two ... but running out of time!

Meet-Up with the CLC Carolina Region this weekend April 14-15.  This will be my first travel since the accident, and taking wife Cheryl along for the fun. My brother Randy will pooch sit our 3 Yorkies (no we do not kennel them!!!).

Trip to Long Island, NY April 18-21 to scope out potential 2029 CLC Grand National Site.  I will travel with President Ronnie Hux and VP of Meets & Tours Dave Rubin to scope out what I think will be a great site for the 2029 GN!!  I will drive from NC to NY mainly on I-95 on East Coast, so if anyone needs anything along the way, give me a shout.

I just brought in Parts Cars #61 & #62.  Since I cannot go get a car in my current condition, and sold my car hauler last year (with plans to buy another at some point), I had two 1963's dumped off at the house today: a 1963 Eldorado (yep, an Eldo) and a 1963 Series 62 6-Window Sedan.  I posted a few pics on Facebook today but here is another view. The only reason this worked out was the cars were only 20 miles from me and the seller agreed to deliver! It was a major win-win.
I didn't even know there were nay anymore 63/64's that close to me in terms of parts cars but these popped up on Facebook Marketplace. The guy had bought the Eldo to restore and a back up car for parts about 15 years ago and finally just parked the Eldo about 13 years ago and has been sitting outside.   The crazy thing is he said he had bought parts from my 15 years ago and had been to my place several times!

So, I was going through the Eldo trunk tonight which is a treasure trove, and pretty sure I seen some parts that would have originally come from me!! It's the gift that keeps on giving! Anyway, I was/am like a kid in a candy store!  More on the parts cars, etc. later.

Here is a picture of my two new treasures that arrived today!

Hi Jason,

Glad the knee is doing a bit better - great progress!  Have a good trip to the Meet-Up and like you, we never kennel our dog!!!  There are a lot of places on Long Island for the 2029 GN.  We know the area well; not that far from us.  The two 1963 parts cars look good - what a find!  Rest up and stay well.

Is that eldo savable?

They all are if you have the money. This is parts car #62 and will go on to save many other Cadillacs.  Looking at either car realistically I would look at the series 62 Six Window Sedan as a much easier restore car for me personally... especially since I can just pick parts I need off my shelf. BUT... I already have a project car I have been into 28 years and as I always say, "I have restored about 2/3's of but need to go back and redo the first 1/3!".

Back to the Eldorado, considering this car has no interior, floors are rotted, has considerable body damage, has not run in 13 years, I would expect someone to easily spend $75K to $100K to throroughly go through it. And remember the pretty damn nice 63 Eldo at Kissimmee Mecum went for $46 adn the 64 Eldo at Kissimmee Mecum went for $66, that is still a losing prospect.

The value of these cars is really the fun factor value. If you want to make money, it is not restoring a car that is been sitting outside for over a decade rotting away.   I pressed the seller to just sell me the Series 62 Sedan, and that the Eldo was just another parts car for me and one I would have negative zero interest in restoring (If negative zero is such a thing), as I do not have $100,000 to invest in a "fun car". I keep looking for that satchel full of tightly packed hundred dollar bills on the side of the road, and if I ever do find it, I might restore a car like this... but actually I would probably dump it into Dino and take him to the next level. (Well, the boss wold probably want 1/2 the folding money for our 1912 fixer upper house...which is probably only 1/2 restored! LOL

I guess I am an odd ball in that I truly do already have my "restoration project" and there is actually a lot to do. I have never even touched the AC, and just now trying to go over the undercarriage. Hell, at age 61,I will need to live to be 161 and stop ripping my knees apart to get it anywhere near complete!!!

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
