Greetings everyone and Happy Easter to all! I finally got the rebuilt heads on my 63. Thanks Jason for the heads and Jason and Russ for the head bolts. I started her yesterday and went for a nice cruise today. Man, this ole' girl knows how to scoot! Now I have a carb question. I found several issues with carb and intake gaskets during the teardown that indicated why the engine was running lean. Now that everything has been corrected I am getting a very slight black smoke from the tail pipes at idle with the mixture screws closed completely. I set the timing and idle speed to factory specs with the vacuum line disconnected. Before the heads were replaced the mixture screws were turned out about 1 1/2 turns each. From the part # on my carb it is from a 65 429. Could that be the problem? I have a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb that I considered using but am not sure how to make it work the throttle and Jetaway linkage. Any reputable carb rebuilders out there? I have watched many videos from Carburetors and More but their reviews do not speak highly. Thanks to all.

Ok, I just had a brainstorm thought. I did replace the original phenolic carp spacer with a reproduction unit from OPGI. The 3/8" connection on the original for the PCV connection had a very large hole for the vacuum inlet. The aftermarket spacer had a very small hole, about 1/8" ID but still accepted the 3/8" ID hose. Maybe, just maybe, I am not drawing enough air through the PCV Valve which would cause the slight overly rich mixture. Hmm, I have a plan. I will repost after I do some further testing. Stay tuned boys and girls. Happy Easter to all!

The carter adjustments are 3 turns for the air mixture screw, a 1 1/2 for the idle mixture screws.

The car should stall out with the fuel mixture screws turned in. That is telling me you have a vacuum leak somewhere.  As Tony mentioned, are you capping the vac line to the distrib?

Turning the air mix screw out is going to lean out the fuel mixture. It is difficult for me to get the mixture correct, so I installed a air/fuel mixture monitor to get it spot on.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
