brakes locking up

Hi all - this question is actually about the brakes on my 57 Fleetwood, but it is drum brake related, so I hope for guidance. The car has sat for about 8 weeks (as it has in the past), but I have had to move it every morning for the last 3 days for some backyard work, and the brakes are locked every morning. I rock back and forth with the gear selector, and I get a tad of movement. Eventually, they free up, and the car moves, and it seems fine. I park the car - the next day, the same thing…See More

"Video is correct. My comments were a bit confusing anyway in reply below and replaced and bolded with the following: As the car is cranked cold and engine warms up it should turn clockwise opening up the butterfly. "

"Jason, when looking at the picture to open it fully you wrote counter clockwise, but shouldn't it be clockwise. When I watch your video you turn it clockwise to open it.Are they all designed the same way?"

Rochester Carby problem

Posted on February 22, 2014 at 6:48am 8 Comments

OK so my Rochester is on the 57 Fleetwood not the 64 but I know I can get some feedback here on the problem... Carby went off the car and went for a refurb. Engine would not idle and the idle screw would do nothing. There was no bakelite spacer which I believe feeds the air to the mixture screw but now have installed that.  Carby back from refurb on it goes and same deal.. The idle screw does nothing and the engine blows lots of black smoke at idle (too rich I assume).. Any ideas what is…

Rocker Cover Restraightening

Posted on August 18, 2013 at 6:12pm 3 Comments

I saw a post here recently on how to restraighten the rocker covers which can flex under the rocker cover bolts.  I have an oil leak at the back of the passenger rocker cover so assume I need to investigate with rocker covers off.  Jason you mentioned how to straighten out the rocker covers. Can you revise that please?

Ballast resistor and petronic ignitor 3

Posted on August 3, 2013 at 8:21pm 7 Comments

hi all -- ignitor 3 is in and r unning OK. but theres a glitch.

ballast voltage to relay - switches 14 volts back to coil (flamethrower 2) then to ignitor 3 - all OK and running. switch off ignition switch and engine keeps running!  there is 4 volts of residual voltage in the circuit. what I would like to do is bypass the ballast resistor and see  if that fixes as I currently run the coil off the ballasted voltage (12.8volts) but would prefer to feed the flamethrower coil the full 14…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

accumulator dryer

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on December 6, 2023 at 10:54am 0 Comments

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
