There was some discussion about fuel filters and thought I would post these pictures showing an original type filter, and an aftermarket paper element AC and on AC filter. Note the one on the left.

The original AC filter on the left was a GF-97 but seems to have been replaced by the # GF-149 at some point. The non-AC original filter was a GF-200. I don't think I have one of those or a picture.

The 2 filters on the right are the sealed AC type (WIX 33039) and the open top non-AC type (WIX 33034). In particular note the carboard base. When installed the gasket goes over this base and the glass goes on top of gasket holding everything in place........but......the bottom carboard will disentegrate and filter will float to bottom becoming useless. You can keep filter pressed up with a spring, but the base still disintegrates and it is probably a good idea to periodically replace.

Go back to the original type filter and look at how sturdy the base is with the steel ring. As they say, the just don't make things like they use to.

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 13 Comments

In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
