On a 1964 60 Special with a tilt wheel, tubro trans and #653 neutral switch.  When I had the transmission done the switch got out of alignment.  Now the car will start in Park, but not in Neutral, and the backup lights will not light.  If I move the switch so the car will start in Neutral, it will not start in Park, and the back up lights will not light.  If I move the switch so that the back up lights will light when in reverse, the car will not start in Park or Neutral.  Does this mean I need…See More

The valve guides can be replaced , and or , use what they call valve seals
They fit at the top of the valve guide ,under the valve springs ,and prevent oil from running down the valve stem ,especially on the pistons down stroke at the intake valve
Most machine shops that would do the work for you have that info

Torque converter grab when idling in Drive

Posted by Cliff Johnston on June 14, 2021 at 8:47pm 2 Comments

Hi Everyone, been quite a while since i have been on here.

I have had an issue with the idle on my 64 Coupe Deville ever since i have had it.

With the Idle set high enough that it is smooth, but still a nice idle, the RPM seems only slightly too high for the stall of the Torque Converter. And therefore it tends to sit there and grab and lunge a bit. So until now, i have been putting the car in Neutral at the lights to stop this happening.

I've had the car dyno tuned and…
