I have now ordered the replaceent compressor,,, the low energy, higher efficiency unit.  I am just assuming its already made for the r134.  Per  Michael Fortes fine write up, I also ordered the two big hoses, the dryer, the 90 degree connectors and the STV kit.

My question, after reading seveeral strings on this site regarding ac things,  Since the new compressor is a drop in replacemnet for the old compressor, and is supposed to be built for for r134, I started second guessing what i needed to do about the stv kit,  Now Michael got a rebuilt a6, so it was a r12, he had to change his out (stv), and the replacement i purchased is supposedly already built for r134, so do I need to do the stv change per directions supplied by Michael..

i dont want to fool with someting if i dont need to, but i have it coming anyway, it ws just second guessing after reading other articles that got me to overthinking,,

Ok.    If i am pulling all these hoses oof and replacing, does it still need to be drained of freon,  or shoukd that be done up front?

Ok.   Didnt know the order of evac.  Thanks

so i do need to get a small vaccum pump after all the parts are put back together?  i was wathcing a utube video by eric the car guy,, and he hooked one up, to test for overnight, but that is not the same as pulling out the old freon,, correct.??

  • Ok,  ive progressed on this ac converversion.  Like Michael forte, the replacement compressor has a 5 inch wheel, ass opposed to the 6 inch on original.  So i called old air, the said getva belt that one inch shorter.  I guess thatvmakes sense.  I got the conversion to the stv done and installed but i have a question.

My original ac power wire is really frayed and exposed, so if i cut it back to "good" wire i wont have enough to reach the little thermostat you have to attach it to at the evapoator box.  So what is the gauge wire that i need to purchase to splice into the power wire. Its a smallish black wire, as compared to the supplied wire in the kit.  I just dont wznt to do too much crossing up of gauges, or does it matter.

Just a note,  this is a tough access part.  I had to undo the hood as well to move the bracket to get the 1 1/16 wrench in there, to be able to get enough torgue on the old nuts,   younalso have to remove the dust shield in the wheel well.

Also, old airvtech support has been quite helpful.

Do you have a part number for the shorter belt?

update on ac,

i fnially got the ac put back to gether,, after a few typical errors, like forgetting to pull shrader valves out, before puttin on new fittings,, stuff like that,, i got the thing charged up.  While it was only about 50 outside today in montana.. i turned it on, and i got cold air,,, problem was, it was coming from the heater vents, but it was considerably colder than the outisde air,, and when i moved it over to heat, the heat came on and was with out a doubt, heat, so I guess the next thing to do is to try and figure out how to get the door that sends air to dash vents during ac usage, as oppposed to the heater vent on the floor,,

where would be the first place to look for that?

Tony.  Its the 63. Cdv.   Is there a difference in system ?

Hey Tony,, is there a difference in the two systems as to the blowers and ducts?  i know from the MIchael Forte discussion, there was some talk about he 64 and 63 having different systems.,, does that apply to just the elctronics or the whole ducting system and doors and openings.??

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
