I have had another bout of what I perceive as vapor lock.. its been warm again out here in MT, and I took the car for a several hour ride. Ran flawlessly,,, until I got back to town,  some slow driving, some longer idles, and I was at about 195 on the gauge.   to access were I live requires a pretty long, steep hill and I started up and half way up, it stalled and wouldnt start.  I back rolled it down the hill, tried to start and the bowl was empty, and not filling as I tried to restart.  and the fuel pump was VERY HOT.  just my thought is its getting vapored in or around the fuel pump and no gas is gettin to the filter bowl, add in the steep hill and it just stalls.  After about 2 hours of sitting, I went back and it fired right up, bowl was back to full.. pump was cool to touch..

so I got the thinking about going to a electric pump to try and alleviate this.   I noted Russ A. seems to think they have worked well from him as well as others.

so, my question is to options.  Can you add a lower pressure pump, say 3 to 5 psi and use it as a supplement to the mechanical pump, so as to continue to push fuel if it vapors, or would it be more prudent to just go with simply full electric and set it at the 7 psi that is required?

Also, what brand has been found to be most reliable,  I see edlbrocks at the store, they have a lower pressure one  30 mph and and another one that goes up to 38 mph, I but im not up on these things so was just wondering..

any insight would be helpful

I use FACET fuel pumps which are high quality. You can run them with the original FP if its in good shape. A return line to the tank is a great idea. Insulate the fuel lines in the engine bay as well.

I have the line from pump to filter wrapped in insulated reflector tape. I tried to put it on the pump, but all the odd surfaced and oily surfaces didnt stick well.  I should also mention, its an ac car.  .  I will look into the pump you mention.

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
