My 64 Cadillac CDV was originally painted about 12 years ago, and while it was Ok there were some waves and other flaws in the metal not to mention nicks I have picked up over the years. Phillip Lee of Lee's Collision in Clayton NC has been going back over the car one section at a time having covered hood, cowl, right side and deck lid earlier in the year. Tomorrow I will take it back into the shop to go down the left side, and replace the LH door hinges and upper grill painted pieces with pieces from the 41K mile Fleetwood donor car I brought in a couple years ago.

I have inserted a couple of pictures below:

Jason is the white top a factory option? I've been thinking of doing something similar with mine.

Yes, for the 1964 Coupe DeVille you could get the car with either an Aspen White painted top, or white cross grain top (or one of 3 other colors). From the factory my car had paint code 44-12 -> Bahama Sand body, aspen white top. I previously owned a 1964 Series 62 Coupe that was Sierra Gold and loved that color and decided when time to paint my 64 CDV (around 2003) to go with the factory gold.  You could also get cross grain vinyl tops on the following body styles - Coupe DeVille, 4 Window Sedan DeVille, Fleetwood 60 Special, and 75 Series Sedan and Limo and opted for the cross grain vinyl top.

Last year, on March 19, 2014, the exact 50th anniversary of the build date of my car 3-19-1964, I featured it in our Newsletter which includes most of the history on the car. You can check it out at this link: https://app.box.com/s/5tzorcit00jmhz1c6p2k

You will note on my build list that there was a 1964 4 Window Sedan DeVille built with a white cross grain top (code 61) from the factory.  In it's current incarnation, my car from the factory would have ad paint code 46-61 (Sierra Gold - white vinyl top).

Nice history on your car. I didn't realize it was a vinyl top I thought it was painted. Looks nice but I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with mine. I already have a substantial amount into it and a paint job would just put me over the top if you know what I mean. I'm now in the market for a vintage airstream or argosy and they aren't cheap either.

There appears to be some kind of felt washer around the top of my oil dipstick, presumable to seal off the dipstick tube. I've looked around the usual parts suppliers but came up empty. There's not…Continue

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
