I got my parts in to replace gasket on the 63 cdv oil pump that is leaking.
reading in the manual, it says to remove engine front covers described in 2a.
that is a BUNCH of steps to remove the gasket and the two sets of gears, or am i over reading that and should i just stick to the disassembly while its on the engine, those 4 cap crews look easy enough access, and proceed to disassemble then reassemble under 5b and 6a
secondly, i received the PS pump and two new lines.. pump off ok,, pulley off ok,, but those hoses back on the steering column are a real bear,, any suggestion to get those loose, only thing at this point i can see to do is cut the metal piping at at the nut and slide a socket over it,, is there a easier access to pop it loose,, i have put some nut buster spray in it to sit all night,, see if any easier tomorrow.
Sincerely
Kim

what would i be looking for,, from the few that i have pulled doing a spark check,, my untrained eye seems to say they look fine, no corrosion or build up of any sort, they look clean.
let me know what i should be searching for, and i can check for it,
Thanks,
i will give it a ago tomorrow, after a trip to the parts store for engine cleaner, oil and a new filter,, by then,, i will know if the stuff on exhaust is cleaning fluid residue or not, should be burned off by then if that was what it was...
hopefully, the ignition starter i got from russ will be in tomowor as well, and I ca put things back togehter
on a higher note,, i didnt see any more PS leaking from either the pump or the hose connections, so that is a good thing,,,,i think that has gone on for long long time,,
ok, i warmed the carp, put in some sea foam as directed,4.5 oz down the mouse hole (oil spout)
let her run a while,,decided to take her around block,, and damn if he PS pump was not filled enough so i had to refill and tightened belt as it was screaming. started it up again, i really didn't notice the clacking near as bad,, so i took it around the block,, the clacking is still there when i hit the gas to accelerate. but the idle clacking is either not there or very minimal compapred to yesterday, please listen to both and see what you think.. will reset timing to day, hoping starter switch comes in so i can put the dash back to gather,,
so should i do an oil change or not, i have about 1500 miles post, gas in the block episode.
and then put in the MMO..
let me know wheat you think of the two videos.. sound wise,, there was smoke early on, and then after my short ride, didnt notice any, so will keep eyeing that as well..
well, i have no idea what goes on in that engine, but comparing the two videos, its like night and day, ,absolutely no clicking or pinging or clacking from today from yesterday,
Again, the clacking is still there when i drive it.. it when i accelerate from either a dead stop, or if i cruise a bit, let off gas, then need to add power,, it comes up popping,, but will give the stuff some time to settle out,
if you have never been on country road in mississippi with window down and you pass a old beat up log truck that with about 15 big ole pine trees on it, and hear the popping and clacking they make, you are missing something, BUT ,, that is exactly the sound my car makes when i hit the gas pedal..a slow,, clack clack clack clack,
i will re set timing later today, if i can get a good video of the car during acceleration, i will post it up, getting wind noise really diminished the quality of the sound..
Yes, i do have service manual for the car. i did read about the back on forth on the PS pump i just didn't have enough in to go through the system i guess.
Flabbergasted!!!!!!
engine gone back to clicking after startup were it was fine an just purring this morning,,,oh well.
checked timing, it was at 10 !!!, dont know how that happens but,, got it back down to 5 according to book,, took for a loop around block, still no changes in the clacking on acceleration. at least timing is back to proper.
NEW VIDEO,, i figured out the you tube thing so i can load a little longer version, took out another run, startup knocking seems to be back under control, i guess it s the timing, i must have turned it a touch when i tightens the distributor back. but its back to 5 on the meter.
went out, and if yo watch and listen, as i accelerate, the clacking picks up, and as the gearing pressure is released and it shifts, the pressure on the engine drops and it becomes much less,,and non existent at idle, until i hit the accelerator again, and you can hear it start to popping again,
i hope this longer version give yall a better feel and help with my problem

What you may need to do is pull the valve covers off and watch what lifters are chattering. These engine operate a little bit differently than most engines. The lifter does not pimp oil up a hollow push rod, to lube the rockers. Oil travels up the sides of specially shaped bolts that hold the rocker arm assembly down. Oil then goes into the rocker shaft to each individual rocker.
Your lifters are either collapsed, or clogged oil passages in the rocker arm assy.
With the valve covers off, start the car and look for the rocker arms that do not have oil coming out a tiny hole near the pivot point. Oil travels down the arm of the rocker arm and onto the valve stem.
Once you have found the rockers that are dry, pour oil onto the rocker arm. If it quiets up, the rocker arm or the tube is clogged up with gunk.
If all of the rocker arms are getting oil, then you have collapsed lifters.
Running the cleaner through the engine may clear up collapsed lifters, but not a clogged rocker assy tube or lifter.

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?
My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.
Many thanks,

Hey guys,
I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
