I have been discussing original colors of various components around and under the hood with a contact via email and I was asked about the cover plates over the headlight housings in the front of the fender, and admitted mine have been wrong for some time since the first guy that painted my car painted these the car color. Since they should be a satin/semi-gloss black, I decided to take care of this once and for all today. It took a whole lot more time masking and protecting the car from overspray than preparing the plates. Anyway, I thought it was worth sharing, especially since I see the inserting pictures feature is again working.

Pretty sure you are an artist with a Rattle Can and I don't care how good the Hirsch paint is( if that is what you used) . You have the touch  !

Ha! I do have the timing of it down.... prime,  wait 20 to 30 minutes, 1st top coat, wait 20 minute then 2nd top coat, wam-bam, thank you, mam, Done!  I use to be good at that wrinkling thing... you know wait too long to apply that 2nd coat so the top coat attacks the bottom coat.   I call that technique the "side-tracked" paint technique... get side-tracked and Voila! Wrinkling.

I think you need to add this to the garage,   http://www.raleighclassic.com/used-Raleigh-1973-Cadillac-Eldorado-B...

Right up the street from you !  22000 miles

Sweet! Maybe one day I will actually make it to the Raleigh Classic. As you say it is just right up the street!

Just unwrapped the Caddy, and reinstalled front fender bolts and headlight bezels, and am very pleased with the outcome.  Tomorrow is clean-the-car day and then maybe take out to a local car show Saturday. Here's the finished results:

Looks great !

Looks good Jason.

Interesting, for 64 Cadillac did them under hood black. On my 63, which still wears the original factory paint, those panels are the same as the body color.

The entire front fender design is very different ... you don't have anything in the front of your 63 fender that looks like the front "fender extension" that replaced the simpler headlight housing pans used in 1963.

Here is the 64 front fender extension & headlight housing:

Man that is nice!!

Yeah, I think that adds a bit of "pop" to the under hood scenery. Back to original and looks better... love those win-wins!!

thank you

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 13 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
