Trivia Question 6 - Weight of Rear End Assembly
I think Kevin wanted some more trivia so here is one I can give you from parts end of things.
Looking at the rear end assembly below, what is the weight?
Whoever gets it within 5 lbs gets the cigar!
NOTE: this is a Controlled Differential (posi) rear end but believe the weight would be close to the regular hypoid type rear end. Also note it does not include the control links or upper control arm. And no, chain hoist were not weighed!! Just the net weight of the rear end assembly? Rear end does have rear end oil.
So.. who is going to get the cigar!!!!

261 is closest so far. Again hoisting hardware is not part of the weight. This is for the weight of the rear end assembly. You always tare (Zero Out) attaching hardware.

Nope, but that is a good clue. Keep in mind 197 lb is without drums and brake hardware.

I did look up the old post after Jason gave the clue so I knew the 197 lb figure and was figuring my best guess for the drums and brake components. It took a couple of stabs though.

Ian Osborne... HAVE A CIGAR! Your estimate of 268 lb was actually 100% DEAD ON THE MONEY!!!!
I was thinking the weight was 269 but just got back home and looked at my pictures and it was 268.
So congrats on the exact estimate!!!
The clue I left out there that some of you picked up on was the rear end sans drums and brakes, which weight in at 197 lb. Just to add a bit to this, the used original drums weight about 23 lb each so that already puts you at 243 lb.. so you have to then estimate brake shoes and other hardware which gets you up to 268 lb.
NOW... to be honest I thought some of you would have guessed 300 to 400 lbs. I guess I just prejudiced because I've had to drag the beasts around for 20 years. I also would have guess more as they make those 10 and 20 bolt Chevy rear ends truly look line ballerinas.Speaking of Ballerina's... Tony, Tony, Tony! 95 lb! Don't ever try the "guess my weight' Game at the state fair!

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year , There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A What is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.
