Well,, 63 got in.  due to work, unable to get out, plus some concern about the leaking radiator,, so i decided to crank er up, put some water in the radiator and went on quick ride, about 5 miles... i noticed something i didnt feel during original drive... it drives strait, no problem,, wen i hit brake it pulls right pretty good.

I ran through the old bills from about 87 or so.. there has been suspension work, new heavy duty shocks in last couple thousands miles,,prior owner said he put a"cherry bomb" on it for some noise,  I dont particularly like loud cars, so any idea how to get rid of that thing,,I odnt like all that grumble..

I didn't notice anything else on that short little run.. Radiator be in next week, so i can take on a better ride then...oh,, there is a bit plastic container on the driver side toward the front of the engine,, i am assuming it may be the windshield washer?  holds a couple quarts according to the markings. It has a hose that runs up to the firewall.. or is ti something else.. it kind of sits by it self..I got the manual out and started checking stuff with it, but didnt see that part.

Any thought s on the pull during break would be appreciated.

Sincerely

Kim

Take your car to a muffler shop and they can swap in a new one that's much quieter.
As for the brakes it may take a couple trips with the car to scrub off any light corrosion on the drums if it sat without being driven for a bit. If the brakes are newish then they may need to seat themselves before working the best. It is possible to have some suspension issues but I would think that it's more likely from sitting.
There are other possible problems like a leaking wheel cylinder but you would have checked all that before your first ride right?

afa the muffler,, this would be for the boxy part, correct,, ??  i wont need the pipes that run from the engine?

is there a stock part?  i looked online and the array of mufflers is dizzying

Check with parts suppliers on this site. They know what you need.

thanks, i have written them a parts request..

Sincerely

I searched on one supplier. Can't understand what is dizzying.

Normally every supplier let you sort by Maker, Model and Year. After that it should not be to difficult to find the correct part. In this case as you want the sound to be less you should make sure the resonator is part of the package. Stainless or aluminized? Well, depends how much money you have in the wallet. Stainless will last a lot longer though.

as to what is required,, i just want a quiet muffler,, many of the ads are for more power,  add more noise,,the differing materials..more of this or more of that,,, i just want what was on the car.  No extra noise,  Look,,you guys have been fooling around with these cars for 20 or 30 years.. I got my first one a year ago.  so you will have to be a bit more forgiving of my ignorance.  I am reading, and looking at pictures and trying to figure things out, but without some direction, there are a lot of parts, options, etc that y'all have kept up with for years, and have knowledge of, that i have not acquired.

So follow the link in my post. And get an original system.

Your car is pulling to right most likely because your upper control arm bushings are worn.

You will most likely have to replace these:

Kim, let us know when you get a shop manual, so we can direct you to the correct page. Study up on the parts and locations.

The car pulling to the right under braking can be caused by several things.  As above, worn upper A arm bushings.  Worn tie rod ends, worn center link, worn idler arm, and out of adjustment brakes.

To change the muffler, take it to a muffler shop and ask them to put the quietest muffler on.

Hi,  I do have a service manual.

couple things come to mind,

is it safe to drive is one or any of these parts are worn?

can this be down without using a full height lift?

Are these parts readily available as new or reproduction or would i be looking at the reclaimed suppliers.

Thanks

You dont need full lift. A jack and jackstands will be working. Kanter has a full kit resonobly priced. I bought it all plus coils and shocks. However didnt like the design on the rear shocks. Search on this forum and you find it all.

ok,, thanks for the help,,,i will look them up

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
