I went for a ride today, thinking of Kim Novak from the cadillac forum discussion the other day, and a strange sort of event came up,  It has happened one other time,  wasnt thinking about Novack the first time

I was going along about 55-60 mph. and then the engine felt like it was about to sputter or lost some power, the first time couple weeks ago, same situation, engine was warm, not a hot day,   but without moving the gas pedal, it just sort of slowed and could feel the power leak off.. i gave  it a good press on the gas, got up to about 65, and it seemed to clear.  did it one more time about 5 minutes later, but i was in the car for the rest of the day, 5 to 8 hours,, city and highway, and no problems.

today was the same ,, about 55 or so, it just sort of leaks off of power,  and then with either gas or laying off the gas, it goes away,

now i just changed out the points to electronic, and the situation happened before and after.  motor rebuilt about 40k ago,  was run occasionally monthly from the prior owner, but not a lot of milage, just run.

any thoughts on this,

secondly,, why would the needle on the speedometer bounce, sometimes it runs just fine, no bounce, climbs and drops accordingly, sometimes, though, if i gas, it boucnings over a 8 - 10 mph range,,

sorry guys, it said it didnt go thorough the first time, something about captcha

The speedometer needs to be relubed, or the speedometer cable needs to be cleaned and lubed.

The speedometer needs to be taken apart and the needle tip needs to be lubed with speedometer lube.

ok,, so first i should check for seepage correct,, I'm guessing that will require lifting the car some, and tracking the fuel line from the carb to the tank and looking for seepage at any joint?? yes or no

if no seepage, then go tot he filter next to carb,, is that a fitler that can be just flushed out, or odes it need to be replaced and if so, what source would you recommend for a new one.>

thirdly, I haven't changed get plugs yet, i looked in bozeman today and they have plugs, i will have to change the setting to 45, just haven't gotten to that, BUT, the condition was before and after the ignition change. so it led me to believe that that wasnt an issue, but I'm just a novice so it could be,

the condition has happened 2 times in doubt 600 miles of driving if that helps anyone with diagnosis...

thanks again on the suggestion .. will try to work on it,,

ok, thanks,,would  a standard filter from a parts store work or is it car specific,,,and if so, who would be a supplier

The fuel filters are different between a AC and non AC car. You will probably need to special order one. just go to your favorite parts store.

Well i went on line and found the diaphragm type filter, but when i got it in, i noted the filter i apparently have is one of the fully enclosed metal ones with the three hoses sticking out,, doesnt appear to have a way to twist it open, just a one piece,, it says six 3300xxx  i cant read the last number or so, smudged out,  but when i go to try and find on internet, they say it doesnt fit my model.. what should i look for here at this point,

maybe i should rephrase, the metal canister doesnt look like it would unscrew but maybe it does.. i dont want to pull it apart unless its what needs to be done and the little paper filter can be inserted.  but it really looks like a sealed unit.  I continue to look online but they all seem to be the mini air filter type,  i dont see a glass bowl type that seems to show up on the parts sites.

here is the picture of my filter,

That's a non factory filter, based on what I know about Cadillac's, which, when I think about it, isn't a lot.

Here is a factory fuel filter. It is held onto the tab of the oil filler tube by a bolt.

is this a purchasable part? and where,  i have only found the air filter paper part that goes inside,,, plus, i wondered what that hole in the strap from the filler was for, now i know,,

so i should replace this with factory,, correct?

or is there a recent substitute,, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to shop for, old or new

looking again at this,, if i need to get the original, the connections are different, will need a screw in hose part as well, as the current one is just the tube sliding over and then clamped,

while i dont feel a need to have the original, i simply want what works..

You don't need the original, as long as what you have works. I wonder if you have the plumbing routed correctly. On your filter, there is a in, out, and return.  In is from the fuel pump, out is to the carb, and return is back to the gas tank. If you have the out and return swapped, that may be your problem with starving the carb from fuel.

If you want the original, I can get you set up with the filter housing, new filter and bowl gasket, and the correct hard lines.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
