I got my parts in to replace gasket on the 63 cdv oil pump that is leaking.

reading in the manual, it says to remove engine front covers described in 2a.

that is a BUNCH of steps to remove the gasket and the two sets of gears,   or am i over reading that and should i just stick to the disassembly while its on the engine, those 4 cap crews look easy enough access, and proceed to disassemble then reassemble under 5b and 6a

secondly, i received the PS pump and two new lines.. pump off ok,, pulley off ok,, but those hoses back on the steering column are a real bear,, any suggestion to get those loose, only thing at this point i can see to do is cut the metal piping at at the nut and slide a socket over it,, is there a easier access to pop it loose,,  i have put some nut buster spray in it to sit all night,, see if any easier tomorrow.

Sincerely

Kim

Yes. highest i can get. Sometimes ethanol free,
I had a lifter tick early on when I first bought my car. I drained around one quart of oil out and added two quarts of kerosene to the engine. I ran the car in the driveway for five or ten minutes then drained it. I did the same thing again I think twice more until the oil coming out was the same colour going in. I just used a cheap oil and filter to flush. I ran out of kerosene after the first flush and used diesel fuel instead. First and second flush was black after that it was good. My engine had been rebuilt but I zero history of when and how many miles out on it. I think it was mostly started and ran for a bit and shut off not being driven from what I pieced together. The problem with doing a deep flush is if the engine is really gummed up it can break stuff loose and have it float all over before its desolved.

did the process work??  this engine was re built at 100k,, currently at 148k miles.  the prior owner advised that he did drive it somewhat, way more than a start on and off,, but still,,

who knows,, will take all suggestions and give them a try,

Yes the lifter tick is gone, it cleared whatever was stopping it from pumping up. The way lifters work is they fill with oil and act as a cushion to the valve train. When it's not pumping up with oil it allows slop and that's the tick you hear on a rocker arm hitting the valve or a lifter hitting the pushrods. Look in the shop manual and you will see how a lifter goes together.

Regarding the deep engine flush, this is not without risk of serious damage to an engine. The diesel or kerosene itself won't do damage if it isn't over revved but dirt coming loose can. It also will help unstick piston rings that are frozen from sitting or being ran short distances with a very poorly tuned engine. This is done to return proper compression ratios.

One last is that engine flushes can't fix a broken or worn out engine.

hope so!!

pulled valve covers on driver side,, fixing to crank and study per Russ suggestions,

will send video upon completion of exploratory surgery,

NEW VIDEO!!         https://youtu.be/ZEBZlqctiCs

Pulled off cover on driver side,  not knowing what to look for, it does appear clean in there.  no gunk, oil is clean looking,  i see the holes Russ was referring to,, gave everything wiggle,, everything is tight.

i cranked it up, noted that the two end ones began pumping oil out immediately, flowing down the arm, as described in instructions...slowly as you can see, the other holes, slowly began to flow oil, before it was over, all holes began to flow,

I DID NOTICE Another noise,,, its sounds like someone jingling change in his pocket,, but could be completely unrelated, you may be able to hear it,,

so, from the driver side video,, does anything stand out, I certainly dont have th knowledge to know what i am looking for other than what I was told to look for.

i will put the other one up later as its a bit more tedious to get to with the ac compressor in the way

Have you fully inspected the whole exhaust system from under the car?

guess I'm gonna have to go back and look again,

NEW VIDEO  PASSENGER SIDE

https://youtu.be/KlCpTNkGDYA

the original you tube was the driver side,,

passenger side under valve covers,,  same as other side,, however, the rate with which the holes began to weep oil was in a different progression and a bit slower.

AND, the one on the two on the very back,  may not be weeping out,, it go so smokey,, i foolishly undid the hose that contained anti freeze dn it got every where, ,i cleaned it all out, and the dripping oil, it got real smokey, so disregard the smoke, its stuff burning off the pipe..

i put a drop or two of oil on the back two as instructed on apparently dry rocker, i dint notice any sound change,  both sides seem to sound the same.  at least to me.

anyway, thats the story under the valve covers.. posts to You tube for posterity and your view pleasure.    I am going to start it one more time to see if that last one or two finally opens up,

are you suggesting I remove the rocker arms??

would that be by the large bolts i see in there,  ??

""Maybe you're chasing multiple problems""  are nt you a barrel of laughs,

I hear a definite tick tick tick on the left and right.  You are going to have to look at the exh manifold gaskets with a flashlight and mirror. get under the car too, as you can see the bottom of the manifold.  Look for a burnt through gasket.

If that checks good, check for bent pushrods as Tony suggested (great idea too)  Run the engine oil cleaner next. If it still persists, then I would suggest removing the rocker arm assemblies and inspecting for a worn shaft or individual rockers.  You can get rebuilt rocker arm assemblies from USA parts.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
