Ok, short refresher, last dec i relpaced starter w rebuilt from usa parts. and even then, after short runs where i got up to temp, if i shutvcar off, and then tried to start, it would drag heavily a d would not start. 10 min later, it would start fine. At the time, i hv cleaned all grounds, all grounds properly, i wrapped wires withe the heat tape, moved them back from exh manifold, things seemed ok.
Last cupla weeks, same symptom, short rides around town, no problems, always starts, longer rides, if i get gas, car barely starts, sometimes, it doesnt even click, i can just hear a humm, after a time or two. , it will slow turn, then start.
So i got bk under car, notced the black wire had a crack anf i coukd see copper. As a temp fix, i put electric tape on it, applied the heat tape, took out for long ride tonight, 45 min or so at 70, [no vibrations from rear, yeah!!]
Anyway, i got out, got in, no start.
So what testing should i do now, should i try to rewire from ignition key to solenpoid/starter, replace solenoid, what further test can i run that i didnt try in dec. my limited knowledge says heat has something to do with this, sustained heat, not just 2 minutes cross town, but longer rides.other than this recurring headache, car doing good

I also agree and will add that if a new problem arises soon after you did some work on a car, first check to see if perhaps you "fixing" something didn't inadvertently cause the new issue. Think about what your work might have affected.
I took car up to livingston today, 65 miles, 65mph, radio on, w amp and lights on for good measure, after the drivr, turned car off wsitrd few seconds, hit the switch, and it fired up right away, no hesitation . Did bisiness, tokk off on first leg of drive home, bout 30 miles. Turmed off car, turned back on, it fired right up. So even more encouraged that the battery size was too small. Hoping it continues to do same.
Glad you fixed the problem. I'm confident that your going to enjoy many miles of trouble free motoring.
First: Thanks to all for everyone's input. We are all here to help each other and glad Kim has resolved the problem and can enjoy his Cadillac. I will also reiterate that it is helpful to post detailed background information in a clear, concise, complete manner.
Second: I never discussed cleaning battery wiring, terminals, etc, in this series of replies so perhaps you have misread my posts! I jumped in when they started discussing CCA and suggested 850 CCA is a good minimum, then went on to suggest doing some basic battery voltage reads and making sure the Alternator is good. The one thing I sort of forgot to mention regarding the Alternator is an easy test is to simply crank the car and and remove Pos battery cable. With a good alternator it should keep running from the Alternator's current.
Third: Calling someone out as you have me and others is unnecessary. I am thick skinned and don't mind the comments, but let's take opinion's like this offline. It doesn't help to resolve Kim's problem.
Finally: It really isn't a competition to answer someone's question. I often will not jump into a conversation because 1) someone has more knowledge and experience than I do and 2) I like to see all of our members have a voice and have an opportunity to be heard. I could easily post a reply on every single thing posted here, but I like to sit back at times and learn from all of you. I want this to be a fun, friendly, learning experience for all of us and it is definitely not about who get's an award. Im always reading on the site, and on the Cad & Lasalle site as I have th 73 eldo as well, , i dont contribute because i dont have enough knowledge to offer suggestion,,,,my role is a student,, not as a teacher,,,i read multiple post from many others to see if they apply in any way to my situations, or things that may be happening or may happen in future.
while i think the car runs good, i really wish there was someone in the Yellowstone area of montana that i could get with, and feel the cars ride,,,but i dont see too many classic montana cadillac owners here, i guess due to the short beautiful weather season..
I have said it before,,if i miss a response or dont respond to something, its just i miss it in the discussion or i read it, it sits in my mind of things to do, i dont remember where it comes from, but i end up doing it somewhere in the process.

Kim, I would just like to say that we all have very different backgrounds, strengths, and weaknesses. You say you're a student; that could very well cause you to suggest a remedy to a problem some of us others would overlook. The more heads working on a problem the better, please stay active on our great site!
Kim , I've owned my 63 since Oct 84 .I'm on this site almost every day like Tony, just don't comment as often. I 'm still learning about these cars; parts differences how to fix this or that.

Here's my two cents. I love all the input everyone puts into a problem. Sometimes with replies not being in order by date and time it can be quite confusing. I've seen people make replies in the middle of threads that are years old. Other websites allow you to quote an earlier post in a thread and this makes it much more intuitive and keeps continuity. Keeping the posts in chronological order would help with continuity and make it easier to follow.
This was all going on during our shift, so I missed out on this thread a bit.

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year , There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A What is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
