I get some pretty good heat wafting through the cab,,kind of comes and goes. happens with windows both up or down and the heat is NOT ON.. i can feel pretty good amounts of heat in the cab.  Would that be coming from the firewall or a gap or hole in there,  Its not coming from the ac vents or the heater vent,,the engine runs at 1/4 heat on the gauge,,  its seems to come and go,,

I know there are no holes in the floor boards so I cant seem to pinpoint the heat,  its  a pretty good amount of heat

Should i look in to those insulated panels for floorboards and firewalls..??

Is the muffler pushed up against the floor?

Hi Tony,  Russ

Thanks for the thoughts.  I dud some u tube research last night.  Guy had a ford station wagon from late 60s.  Took out all the carpet, seats, etc.  Took for a ride and used a thermonmetrer to measure heat coming off the floor board.  Part of floor that sits right behind the exhaust manifolds was upwards of 175 degress!  They applied one of the reflective heat sound products and driving temp dropped to 78.  Thats a big drop.

I hv checked all my vents and no heat is leaking into them.  I will ck that jute stuff under carpet.

My muffler is one of those cherry bomb things,  i did not install, Prior owner did, .

Im guessing my jute underlayment may be disformed after research and seeing that video.  I didnt realize there was that much heat transfer but it makes sense now after seeing that

I have an aftermarket universal heat shield on our muffler.

It does deflect some heat and it's worth having.

I just went on a hour ride,  floor panels were ok. But up were the carpet attches under the dash, there is a gap. And bare metal is exposed.  It was very warm.  And were the steering column goes throgh rhe floor.  I will look at putting some thing up there to stop it from radiating out.  It may be the draft in the car is carrying that heat around the cab .  Particularly on hot days . Just a guess.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
