I have read that it is possible to remove the extension housing with the trans still in the car. Clearly
the rear crossmember under the housing must be removed. Is it necessary to remove the larger crossmember with the yaw mounts? Has any one done this project ? I want to work on the reverse clutch
Not knowing what year you have but I pulled the tail housing off my 63 convertible to service the governor. I supported the trans under the pan. I used a 12" square piece of 3/4" plywood to distribute the weight as to not damage the pan. You will also need a wobble extension on your ratchet to get to the upper bolts squarely. I had to use an impact wrench to remove them. Torqued them to specs upon replacement. Of coarse it is imperative to clean the mating surfaces thoroughly and use a new gasket.
