The part # 148 2600 is not pulling up in my Master Parts books. Note that casting #'s are often not the same as part #'s.

For reference the 1963 Hood and Deck Lid original Part #'s were:
The 1963 Hood V is Parts Group 8.055, Part # 363 2147
The 1963 Deck Lid V (on body styles equipped with the V) is Parts Group 12.182, Part # 147 9373

Gentleman, I apreciate all your comments but i dont need a V for my trunk lid but for the hood. I was only comparising the v-emblem that I have with the one that is on my 63 coupe. I thought that all the v`s on the 63 models were the same. And I thoght that the v I purchased was for the hood. It must be a different year because of the different place of the studs. The shape of the v is exact the same as the one on the hood of the Eldo. Again......the studs are on a different place. So I now have a V of which I donot know from what year. Jason do you have any ideas. part# 1482600

That is correct. the Eldorado instead had the ELDOROADO to the right in block lettering as seen below:

The 1963 Fleetwood's similarly had the FLEETWOOD in block lettering:

I need to brush up on my '63 Cadillacs haha. I completely forgot that they didn't have the wreath crest on the front and back of the Eldorados. That being said, Cees shouldn't need a V for the trunk because the Eldorado didn't have one, correct?

The Fleetwood body Series did not get the hood and decklid Wreath until 1964.  Since the Eldorado moved into the Fleetwood body series in 1964, that meant the Fleetwood Eldorado, Sixty Special and Seventy Five Series all received the Wreath. In 1963 the Eldorado Biarritz and the Fleetwoods used the same hood V as the other body styles.

As far as the difference in hood and deck lid V, it is very distinct in 1964 as the Hood V is a full 5/8" taller than the slightly wider deck lid V. The bottom line is they produced these emblems for what looks best and not what is easiest to mass produce, or perhaps replace at a later date. Look at the 64 deck lid for instance. The wide of the downward sloping area is about 60", where as the width of the hood before it turns outwards is only 48". It simply looks better to have a taller hood V on the shorter taller hood section, vs the shorter, stretched out deck lid V.  As far 63 the contrast in V's is more subtle, and yes they probably could have almost made the same V work, but not having both 63 hood and deck lid and the V's on hand, from memory there was a bit of different needed similar to the 64's in that the 63 and 64 hood has the V's center section where as the deck lids are more flat across the expanse. Again, they built these cars year by year based on what would be best for each of the body panels in terms of overall symmetry and style.  Perhaps the installation had something to do with the V peg placement as the openings of the hood and deck lid are a bit different, and of course you have a Crest in the center of the hood V and a lock in the center on the deck lid.
All could have something to do with the differences but I expect they designed for the specific panel and not what they could reuse else where. Another example of where the "could have used another existing emblem" was in 1964 when the moved the wreath and crest that had been on the rear qtr panel in 1963 on the Fleetwood 60 Special to the C pillar. Instead of using the same emblems they downsized it to have better proportion to the C pillar.  Keep in mind this was the era when the cars changed every year. Consider that not a single thing on the very front clip of the 63 is the same as the 64 other than the front upper bumper ends and the headlamps themselves. Everything else including at least 4, 5 maybe 6 dozen items were changes. On the very back clip it is even more drastic as NOTHING is the same from 63 to 64, other than the core inside bulbs!

Why aren't you using the wreath emblems? OPGI has any emblems that you're looking for.

I think I have a wrong V-emblem. I checked the on the trunk and that one has 4 studs. So i have definitely the wrong one. Any one got a 63 Hood v-emblem?????????????

I just looked at OPGI's reproduction emblems to get an idea. The '63 front and back emblems do look very similar except the front emblem looks slightly smaller than the back if the pictures were taken from similar distances. The '64 emblems have a pretty noticeable difference in shape.

If you lay them next to eachother they appear to be exactly the same except for the place of the studs.

I'm assuming it has to do with the slope of the trunk lid as compared to the hood. Standing in front of the car, they appear to be the same because they changed the slope of the "v" in correspondence with the slope of the trunk. I have a '64 though and I'm not really 100% positive about the slope of the '63 trunk compared to the hood, but if I had to guess, I'd assume that's the reason.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
