Windshield scratch remover

Anyone have any experience removing light scratches from our Cadillac windshields

I thought I might need to replace my windshield but when inspected by my windshield guy he seems to feel I could get away with polishing out the scratches as they are mostly light ones

i have no dings or deep scratches

I would like to keep the original glass —so this idea is appealing to me

The Mileage reading on your speedometer

I hope i am not breaking anyones bubble but if you choose to remove the speedometer you can change the mileage on these cars to anything you desire it to be by just adjusting some of its internal parts and changing the numbers

That can lead to a lot of misconduct and cause you to by a car that is not correctly represented by its mileage

Just a heads up to study other aspects of the car to see if the mileage feels right for the wear and tear you may be looking at on a given… Continue

Power steering fluid change

In writing my thoughts on the last thread i just realized that changing the power steering fluid is not something done very often like we do all with other fluids on a timely basis

Actually i do not remember anything that adresses the changing of this fluid on a regular basis

I did draw my fluid out with an oil sucktion tool and replaced it then did that a few more times after using the car so some of mine has been freshened up in that way

Hey it could save you from having to… Continue

Hot Rod builders are using a lot of Vintage Air in there rides

One of my pastimes is checking out Local Hot Rod listings and there specs
Alot of cars 29-32-34 ( for example )i have noticed using Vintage Air airconditioning in there builds
Just an obsevation i have made as some on here are going the AC replacement route
Especially if the car did not come with air from the factory
I did think it was odd that so many went with the Vintage Air units thst i thought i should mention it

Checknyoubfan belt condition lately

Do be sure that your fan belts are in good condition

The reason i say this is because one of my belts did break years ago
The broken belt managed to break and knock off the other two
So all three are now off
Disabling the water pump so cannot run the car
Now no fan belts and stranded - dead in the water
We have to avoid anything thst would get us stranded for sure
So just a heads up

Notes on maintenance

We should all be keeping very specific notes on all the maintenance done when its done

This will be a blessing when you are wondering when was the last time X Y and Z was done

Time goes faster than you think when you are having --FUN

So watch the basic maintenance schedule and the timing to get that stuff done in a timely fashion

It will make a difference for the long haul

Seeing less and less cars that are desirable to restore

I see Hemmings Motor News daily

I am seeing in the last 3-6 months that there are less and less cars available that would be insperational to restore

It seems like there are more daily driver type cars available only

Not the quality of cars or high performance power cars That were around and for sale for many years

Could it be we are running out the most desirable cars to restore we had in the past ( from the 60's and 70's)

The conditions that the cars they are choosing… Continue

Normal tune up interval with stock points

I know the cars from these years needed more maintenance than the cars today

I think the tune up interval was 6000 miles and the oil change and grease was in the 3000 mile range when the cars were new

These cars need to be geased

The pertronics ignition does change the tune up specs to much longer but the other parts of the ignition like the cap and rotor plugs wires all will still need attension at certain intervals

Best to keep up with required maintenance to… Continue

Do check the condition of the cars battery charge

If you Antique Cadillac sits a good deal between uses do check the batteries fluid level and charge the battery
Using a trickle charge to slow charge the battery is a good thing for batttery life
A 12v battery needs to be kept closer to a full charge
If the charge drops off to much it will have a negative effect on the life of the battery And the cells

Just doing mine

Regarding the harmonic balancer

If the harmonic balancer is in fact a balancer to tweek the crankshafts rotation balance i would assume that at some point in time they were spin balance together to get the rotation as good as it can be

If that is the case it may not be possible to just replace your balancer from that of another engine and think it will work correctly (have no vibration and fix your car )

Wondering if some of the drive train vibration issues a good many have might be the result of a change of the… Continue

Having a lot of fun out with the family in the convertible

My son dropped in for a few days as he towes race boats up and down the east coast and is in Florida a lot for that reason( Long island NY to Florida runs )

Super Boat race boats are his passion ( 100 plus MPH )

He ownes the one and only 21 foot race boat that has won more documented race wins than any other in its class

They are rough water races boats that makes them especially unique and built on Long Island

He picks up and drops a lot of other stuff like race boat parts… Continue

Good to see people having Fun with Cars

Just finished reading my daily Hemmings Motor News and the artical i read said " good to see people having Fun with Cars "

Thought that was a very nice thought and seems to be exactly what we are doing here

Its a hobby if you are not having fun you are doing something WRONG

If it gets frustrating (and it will )

Walk away and REGROUP to return with the right attitude is the key

Often thinking a task thru from a distance will help you find the solution you are… Continue

1964 power steering sector rebuild

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on March 20, 2023 at 11:32pm 3 Comments

I'm having my steering sector rebuilt, and considering changing it from 20-1 ratio 4.2 turns lock to lock to 3.5 turns lock to lock @ 16-1 ratio, If i change from a 3 1/4" box to a 3" box i could have a 14-1 Ratio steering response would be faster, shorter distance to turn the wheel to get a response,   has anyone done this? and how do you like it? thank you

Need help with a hood latch

Posted by Curtis Dover on January 2, 2023 at 5:23pm 0 Comments

Hey guys, I need some help.  Could someone send me some pictures on how the first hood release lever on a factory 1964 Cadillac is set up, where it comes though the grille. Not the secondary one. I need to know where the thumb or finger position is located through the grille. Is it above or below the center grille molding piece? Mine seems to be positioned behind the center molding piece and will not adjust above or below the molding. I have a wire tied to it to release it…
