I haven been able to check for the starter items until today,  so i went out and noticed a lot of fluids on the ground that had run down towards the front of the car as it was on a slope.  so i looked quickly and could see active dripping,, touched it, and it was gas!!!

i opens the hood, and up around the carb, i noticed a puddle of gas ( see picture attached)  i had seen this the other night when i was trying to figure out the starter thing and just figured it was from where i had pour some gas in carb to help start and figured it was run off or i had missed some.  so i absorbed it, cleaned it up dry.  noticed the accelerator pump was a little damp dried it too, and left car as it seemed the starter or straps had been problem,,   so i was surprised to see all the gas and fluid underneath,,, i checked the fuel filter and it was dry as well as the hoses.,  it looks like, but cant be sure, the highest point is the accelerator pump,, now would that continually leak for 4 days with out the engine running  to create this kind of leaking ?  what would be my procedure from here for diagnosis and repair,  if you can tell from the pictures.  that little pool is about an inch deep below he carburetor.. so it holding a fair amount of fuel,,guessing about as big as a thumb,, and the squiggly marks on the accelartore pump are gas and liquid below the rubber boot

thanks,,

i am adding this since i was fooling around the carburetor, this particular hose seems very loose,, it kind of just popped loose when i was trying to dry out the gas source.  should it be that loose or should a clamp be on this,,you can see that its a bit off and not snug up on the metal piece,  its out of the front of the carburetor on the bottom

I'm not able to open your pictures. (I'm not sure if its the site or my computer.)

No disrespect Kim, but I think its time to get a mobile mechanic to come around and take a look as I think you're getting in too deep now. I'm sure if one of us was nearby, we'd be around in a flash to help you.... I know I would.

yes,, may well be,,no offense taken, i realize my limitations.

i will note that i did find that big strap from the frame to the starter, it was completely covered up by gunk and goo.  i suspect from when the radiator was leaking profusely and the fluids were blowing back under the engine.

Its for your pcv valve. It should have a tight fit and is secured by clamps originally. The pcv valve is the metal thingy these two hoses are attached to.

i dont under stand why the pictures dont come up,, i get them on mine, but will try again

I did see the original pictures. Might just have been the site behaving bad.

When you post pictures its easier for the reader (us) if the picture is inserted in the post rather than being an attachment.

It is the same procedure as "Uploading Files", except its the "image" button marked in red. Try it next time and you see what happens. Glad you are using pictures as it is a lot easier to see with own eyes than reading a text.

this is free standing gas below the accelerator pump shaft

See my comment on first page for the pcv valve

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

accumulator dryer

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
