64 AC : Blower runs, air is felt at firewall, but not through heater outlets or AC vents (HEAT/AC door WORKS)

Hello All.

As I am getting in to this troubleshooting with the benefit of Tim Groves invaluable book, I find something that is not covered; blower works strongly but no air can be felt either at heat ducts or AC ducts even though the Heat/AC mode door DOES WORK when I apply vacuum to the solenoid that controls it. (thanks to Tony and Ginny 429 for clueing me in to what panel to remove to observe the door).

As luck would have it, I have buddies who own a MOPAR junkyard and one time they took in a 64 CDV with AC. So I managed to get some parts off of it to practice on and to use. I got what turned out to be a good Transducer and installed it, so now when I run the temp wheel the Power arm moves from AC to heat and changes the blower speed. HOWEVER, nothing comes out of anywhere even though I can hear the blower working hard AND I can feel a STRONG rush of air all the way in the back near the firewall. I had thought what I was feeling was the INTAKE for the blower with the RECIRC door stuck open (solenoid inop), but now I am not so sure.

When I stick my hand inside the heat/ac blend door I can feel that something is flowing, but not alot; it sounds/feels like there's lots of air moving, but not in the right direction.

Stumped!

All replies welcome, thanks.

this was the project. It included the whole comfort control system, electric fans and shroud, transmission cooler electric fans, fitech fuel injection and some paint under hood. Also all new rubbers and insulation under there as well.

Have not taken the inspection plate (inner fender well) off yet, but noticed something: The heater/AC brown vacuum hose from the control unit nipple is not giving vacuum to the solenoid that operates the door. When I give the door solenoid vacuum, it works fine. So, I need to take the 7 nipple valve body out of the control unit and replace it with a spare I have that I think works ok. BUT: How do I remove that friction clip that holds the valve body on to the peg-without ruining it, so I can use it again when I put the replacement valve body on?

Norm, are you sure the rotary valve is getting vacuum?

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
