Since I started cadmium plating the many fasteners and other items from the 55 and counting parts cars I have bought in (1200 lbs worth and counting), I have to say it has really taken the "restoration experience" to the next level for me personally of my 1964 Coupe de Ville. I have always been quick to media blast and paint up parts and stick them back on the car, but the bolts and fasteners have always been a glaring oversight as they were often just painted over, or cleaned with the wire brush to the silver metal only to start to rust and haze over in time.
Many of you have been probably scratching your head with all the listings and sub-groupings of the cadmium plated fastners, etc. I have posted for sale, but it is something I think will serve me and others well as we get our rides looking the best we can. Most of the groupings were pretty straight forward and have left some of the more complex items to the last.
The lower hood latches, not only have a lot of cadmium plated fasteners, but they have a very diverse groupd of different fasteners (check out the list below). I had done a quick estimate as I pulled over 30 of these apart to add my last batch to have plated and thought there must be 30 pieces here. In the end there were 47 cadmium plated fasteners for the lower hood latch. Well, let me take that back ... there are actually 53 pieces, as I did not include the top facing bolts, split lock washers, and flat fender washers that I had included in my very first "top facing" under hood group.
I knew this set of fasteners would really make a huge difference, and again saved the lower hood latch as one of the last items to go through. I still have to do a 63 and they are quite different from the 64 but see an almost equal number of fastners as the 64, plus they have the Cadmium plated top striker pate with the pilot bolt that is really going to set that assembly off.
So with that, for anyone still following along here is a before and after of a 1964 Cadillac Hood Latch assembly... of course the freshly painted one with all the new gold cad bling is going on my 64 Coupe de ville... the reason I got into these old cars and parts to start with.
Jason.

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year , There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A What is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
