Note from Chip Iceman - Tour Director:

Hello, my name is Chip Iceman and I am the Chairman of the 2015 National Driving Tour sponsored by the Motor City Region of the Cadillac & LaSalle Club.

Now that we have entered the new year we are looking forward to hosting this years event. Much time and energy has been dedicated to plan an event around the birthplace of the American automobile industry. We have selected several places of interest, some that are not available to the general public.
This year's event will be held during the month of August in Troy, MI and surrounding areas, Troy is a suburb north of Detroit, MI. The event will be held during the week of the Woodward Dream Cruise, the worlds largest 1 day automotive event, so making sure you are registered early will be very important!!

I just received this email from Chip Iceman with additional information regarding the National Driving Tour and wanted to pass along to all of our chapter members that might want participate:

As summer begins we look forward to the time to get in some serious driving of our vintage Cadillac's and LaSalles.

This is Chip the chairman of this years National Driving Tour here in Troy Michigan.
I was hoping to get the word out to the members in your region. Maybe you can bring it up in your next meeting or forward it via e-mail.
If you have seen the latest issue  of the Self Starter you can read all about the events we have planned.
I have been getting several questions asked. I am hoping with your help we can get the word out and get more people involved.
The most common question I have is do they need to drive their vintage Cadillac or LaSalle to attend.
The answer is a resounding, NO!
Although the tour is designed to cater to the vintage cars they are not required.
We welcome all current members and their significant others and guests. Modern cars, or for those that want to fly in and drive a rental car are just as welcomed.
Although the cars are an important part of the event, it is the people that make it all worth having.
I will be surveying participants in the future that would be willing to host anyone that would like to ride along in a vintage Cadillac or LaSalle.
The next question I get is do they need to attend every day? We have broken the days down on the form. Participants are welcome to attend only the days as they see fit. They can come later or leave earlier. They can even skip a day if they would like.
The last question is at what speeds we will be traveling. Based on the National Driving Tour guidelines we will not be using freeways during the tour. I would say the maximum speed limits are in the 45 - 55 mph range. At no point will we be more than 60 +/- miles from the host hotel. We have tried to get as much bang for our buck as we can but have deliberately set a casual and relaxing pace.
I hope this helps answer some of the linger questions people may have.
If you or your members have any question please do not hesitate to e-mail me at drivingtour2015@gmail.com

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 13 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
