Well after apparently getting the ignition thing figured out,  a temp starter switch put in, i was smiling and took her out for a spin,,

suddenly, the thing started sounding like a log truck,, if you have ever been behind a beat up old log truck, you know what i mean,, video attached.

as i am deaf in left ear, i cant tell if its coming from under body around the muffler or not, only hear it out the side window.  it doesnt seem tope so bad if i just rev the engine in park, but if i get on it while driving,, reallystarts to banging,, ,,so, i ask you people again to help me out here,, believe, me,, every noise and repair i make is giving me education so please dont think its going un noticed, i am taking in all these noises and problems for future, auto ailments.

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Welcome to the world of owning a classic car.

Trickle a "small" amount of light oil down the carb when its running.... wherever the smoke comes out is the leak, unless its the hole at the end.... :-)

so were pretty much in agreement that this sounds like an exhaust leak???

hopefully that's an exhaust leak, could be worse. I would do a Kev suggested with the oil

so yo mean pour a spoonful or so of oil in the carburetor while its running,,?????   like you would gas to get a quick start???

or transmission fluid, any oil that will make it smoke profusely and come out the leaking gasket

today i went out,, poured some atf in the carb,  maybe two tablespoons,,,, plugged the exhaust pipe with a rag,  and i didnt see any smoke,, did i not add enough??

secondly, took it out for ride,  my notes o the noise,

at idle,, almost none hearable,, at take off,,with no throttle, there is no clacking.. the clacking begins when i push the throttle..and, at what feels at second gear, really gets to clacking,, in park,, i can really rev it up, really get on it, and it virtually non existent.

is there another likely suspect, or should i pour more than a couple spoonfuls of atf in the carb or try another method..i really sounds like one of the old worn out old log trucks that travel around here.  really clacking.  keep in mind,, this just "happened"  one minute fine,, next, clackity clack while riding.

i dont have any fluid other than the oil pump and the PS pump leaks, on the ground or apparent on the engine. temp is not going over 1/4.  everything seems normal except that clacking,,

is there anything else i should be checking,???

the starter change works fine, fires right up,, so much nicer than that dead delay sound

Sincerely

kim

here is the sound from another taping,  its most prevalent in the first 3-7 seconds.  after that, the wind noise sort of covers it,  and the speed of the engine, sort of masks it as it gets going faster.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
