I have a 1965 (1964 carry-over) series seventy-five limousine with a 429ci engine.  I have had the engine completely rebuilt (Jasper) and well as the transmission and carburetor.  What octane would you recommend for my car.  I usually put in the highest octane available but with today's prices, am I wasting my money?  Thanks!  Jim

Jim, the compression is 10:1 so the highest you can get is recommended.  The head gaskets are thicker than the originals, so that will lower the compression down just a bit. With that, you can advance the timing ait as well. This will help with the engine responsiveness.

These are 10.5:1 compression. 93 octane, or as close as you can get to 93, should be fine. Doing the octane math, Cadillac recommended a minimum of about 94.5 using the current R+M/2 pump rating method, but 93 should run fine. There is more on Octane on our help page.

Thank you Russ and Jason.  I just wasn't sure if rebuilding the engine reduced the original octane recommendations.  Jim

Just to add, if you bored the engine out any (i.e. 10, 20 or 30 over) you will slightly increase compression, which will usually offset or exceed any lowering compression from thicker head gaskets.  Bottom, line you still have a relatively high compression engine that likes a bit higher octane gasoline.

Amen, Tony.

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
