FWIW my 64 SDV still has its original, spring ring battery clamps. Very cool.

The upper grill support bar should have a raised bracket with welded nut to secure the hold down bracket from the top via a bolt. Also the shop manual refers to 2 hold down screws under battery removal and installation.

Doug's has been the first 63 I've seen with solid top on the upper grill support bar bracket with hold down bracket lip underneath it.  There is definite a possibility they changed designs within the year.

Here is what I've seen on my 11 1963 Parts cars:

Here is the McVeys link for the 63 style: http://www.mcveys.com/parts/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=138&idcate...

and installed on the car:

Ted, McVey's is showing they still carry the hold down bracket ($49). Here's the link and picture: http://www.mcveys.com/parts/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=139&idcate...

The top piece including the S shaped rod and the end side hold down brackets are one piece. A long J bolt goes up through it with a washer and wing nut. I bought all of my hold down hardware from McVeys probably 10 years ago. I believe he still sales this. I sometimes get these in on parts cars but very rare. I think I might have a side J bolt but that's going to be about it right now.  I can get some measurements on the top end hold down brackets if you want to try and make your own.

Jason,  I see the "S" bracket and side hooks for sale.  is the black bracket closer to the fender available?  If not are dimensions available to try and fabricate one?

Russ,  My message got sent before I finished what I was going to say.  I can take detailed photos of either or both 63 battery brackets that I have, or if you are planning on making one that fits a new style battery (wider) I would be glad to send the bracket that I have for you to use as a model if I can get it back.  I may need to use it again in the future so want to hang on to it.

Russ,

Are you wanting one to fit a new style battery that is wider or the Type 60 battery like the original.  I have brackets that fit both?

The 64 Dealer Data book definitely shows a light colored cap. I guess they were switching back and forth but agree both look great.

I inquired about why the caps on the Delco battery that I just received from Restoration Battery had black caps with yellow lettering instead of yellow caps with black lettering. Tom from Restoration Battery told me that on 7/16/62 an order from GM Design Studio stated that they wanted all Delco Batteries to have black caps. Their reason was that they thought the yellow caps were distracting from the beauty of the engine.  I personally think they both look great and he was kind enough to offer to send me yellow caps if I wanted them instead but I opted to stay with the black.  Maybe some of you have history on this as well and I would be curious what your thoughts are.  The yellow caps certainly do add more bling.

Doug

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
