I got my parts in to replace gasket on the 63 cdv oil pump that is leaking.
reading in the manual, it says to remove engine front covers described in 2a.
that is a BUNCH of steps to remove the gasket and the two sets of gears, or am i over reading that and should i just stick to the disassembly while its on the engine, those 4 cap crews look easy enough access, and proceed to disassemble then reassemble under 5b and 6a
secondly, i received the PS pump and two new lines.. pump off ok,, pulley off ok,, but those hoses back on the steering column are a real bear,, any suggestion to get those loose, only thing at this point i can see to do is cut the metal piping at at the nut and slide a socket over it,, is there a easier access to pop it loose,, i have put some nut buster spray in it to sit all night,, see if any easier tomorrow.

NOT to be deterred.. !! a buddy down street,, stopped by, he has bentleys, studebaker, an owned a whole host of cars over years,, ask me what up,, told him,, the said the thought valve sound near front of engine on right, or, exhaust manifold. anyway, i took his info, and googled it on you tube for valve noise and lifter noise, found video to look for it,, maybe it was right, maybe it was wrong method i dont know, but it made sense,
to pull the distributor wire at each cylinder and see if noise stopped.. theory being, if its something to do in that cynyderk the noise would stop,, worked for the guy on you tube,, so i charged forward, and tried, it,, i didnt get any noise reduction on any of them.. so i stuck my head way down and really listened and it does wound like its coming out of the front of block, passenger side at the corner...so i stuck my hand down right nest to the connection of the manifold and really hot hot air was blowing out of the junction in the picture, so i blocked off the air from the fan with bit piece of cardboard so i could tell if the air was from the fan or the connection,, and there is no loss of fan air,, the air seems to be coming from that seam.. and it it hot! i went to the other locations and did not notice any air coming from any of them, now, i dont know if that means one hoot, but, that location is hot and lot of air blowing out of it, and i dont see any other fan or anything at that location to generate that much air,,
so, could any of the above be a further diagnosis or as the country singer said,, I'm pissing in the wind,,,?
what s odd, is, now that you mention soot, i had noticed the white on my spark plugs had been turning brownish black,, i cant say that it was nt like that before this, but i just remember thinking when i saw it, what the Hell is that about, and just moved on, not thinking anything of it...i have a light/camera on the end of a cable with a screen, may try to look in from there as well

Just to say I told you so... I told you so. I listened to the video you had posted and on Nov 26 I indicated it sounded like an exhaust leak. Kim, I know there have been several threads you have posted and I have repeatedly posted what I thought would be 1st things to check with zero response and no confirmation. For example, I remember asking you to check the large ground strap from frame to back of engine 3 times before I got an acknowledgement about a week later after just about everything other than that had been thrown up in the air. This is one reason why I have since only posted peripheral fyi comments on your posts. That exhaust sounded exactly like the fluttering sound you hear when an exhaust gasket is missing and you "get on" a car and put it under a load. I thought it was probably the gaskets between the heat riser but I never pursued it any further since the "goose chase" was on again! Anyway, I would suggest taking all feedback into consideration. Here was my reply back on Nov 26... and I know others have also mentioned that you should check the exhaust system:
Here are some specs on the original bolts ... and yes I have nice used ones if you need them:
- There are 12 exhaust bolts, 6 each side.
- They have a 9/16 hex head, thread is 7/16x14
- The 2 left rear bolts are 1 1/2” long & all others are 2 1/4” long.
Exhaust manifolds should be surfaced/planed flat before going back on any engine. That was definitely one of the "gotta do's" with my engine rebuild back in 2012, and anytime I have installed exhaust manifolds on my other prior driver 64's. As Mark indicated they do warp and bend with age. I do not know if Kim had his exhaust manifolds surfaced. Hopefully that was done and not many miles have been put on the engine. (Cannot remember if that has been stated?)

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year , There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A What is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
