Shocks

Can anyone tell me if there is a a better shock that can be used for my 1964 Conv. Cadillac. I would like a better performance shock than stock. Can you tell me the travel length?

I can only comment on one aftermarket shock, the Gabriel gas cushioned shocks, so I really have zero comparison to anything else. I assumed way back since it seemed to be the recommended shock that it would give a ride similar to original gas cushioned shocks, but I wasn't born until Dec 1964 so I was too young to even know what "stock" performance was like. Of course on the many parts cars I have brought in I have seen all sorts of brands - Monroes, AC Delco, Gabriels, and the ones that always bring a smile to my face... the DELCO PLEASURIZER!

And, of course tired worn coil springs vs new regular coil springs, vs new heavy duty coil springs (what I run) will make a lot of difference in terms of smoothness and stiffness of ride and the ability to support weight (i.e. rear passengers and dead bodies in the trunk).

Yes, the sexual innuendo was non-stop with these Cadillac & Delco guys!  I could just imagine a sexy voice advertising those "pleasurizers" back in the day!
