I’m at the beach, without access to my many pictures, and rereading the 63 Cadillac Spec manual and ran across this statement about the top of 60 Special crown moldings being painted. I have only parted one of these and cannot remember if it was painted. Looking at pics I can access online from my iPhone it is hard to tell. Some 63-6039’s look like they could be painted and some do not. It would be easy enough to remove the paint with Acetone and of course per article cars with optional Eldorado Fire Frost or special order exterior color would have the standard chrome finish.

Just to be clear this is the long Crown molding that runs parallel to hood … and not the short front fender tip trim which was always painted the same as exterior of car in 1963.

I would like to hear from our 1963 Sixty Special owners, or that know for sure. Is the top of your crown molding painted or chrome.

Here is the spec manual information:

both of the 2 I parted out where painted  down the center

Thanks for confirming! Any others with a 63 Fleetwood 60 Special?

Was it not the same for 64?

No. Fender crown physically different (center ridge on 63 giving diamond cut appearance, smooth cupped top on 64) and no paint on top center per spec manual, other literature or the 4 I have parted out, and several I have seen.  I think it made more sense as a way to accentuate the 1963 60 special since it would have the matching painted front fender tip … which of course was chrome in 64.

That explains it. I was wondering why Kevin, who seems to be back with us lately, hasn't piped up about another Fleetwood feature not shared with "lesser" models : )

Yeah, he's probably sulking that they deleted this option from the 64 Fleetwood ... he's already having to deal with the no Eldo horn, which even a well optioned Coupe de Ville I know has this basic option!
For those that don't know us, Kevin and I like to pick at each other!

LOL... we do Jason.

Hi Kurt, yeah, i check the place now and again.

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
