I've got a '63 Series 62 convertible with the original factory AM/FM radio and manual power antenna. I am thinking of replacing the radio with something with better sound and more features, and that mounts in the dash as a replacement for the current unit.

I did not see much info on radio replacement when I searched the forums here, and I've got a few questions.

1. I was thinking about getting the Custom Autosound USA-740 unit. Anyone have any experience with this radio?

2. I'm not looking to create a rolling sound machine; I just want better sound than I have now (my kids joke that I only listen to the news and country music). Any suggestions on what speakers, amps, etc. I should consider?

3. I'm planning to do the install myself. Any tips or other things to watch out for? How hard is it? I assume I can re-use some wiring, but will need to run some new lines too.

4. Anything else you think I should know?

Thanks,
Karl Schwarz

In the. Parts Suppliers section of this site Search for ELECTRO-TECH.  or just search www.turnswitch.com Search their site they can do about anything you want with updating and upgrading your original Cadillac radio.  Definitely worth your time to check them out before you completely change out your radio.

I have a radio if your interested.

I am interested in this radio if Karl isn’t. Let me know!

Hi Karl, I went with the Retrosound "Long Beach" radio in my 63' Eldorado and I love it. It has Bluetooth, USB, AM/FM, XM radio hookups, Aux ports, and hands free calling. I really just use the Bluetooth feature and stream music from my phone though. The radio is completely customizable with chrome buttons, bezels, and knobs. Looks original and they offer Cadillac screen covers that make the radio appear to be correct. It has decent internal power for running speakers right from the unit without amplifiers. I just installed the "Hermosa" version for a buddy in his 1972 Deville with just upgraded speakers in the factory locations and it sounds great. The Hermosa is probably what I should have used as it doesn't have XM and some other features I don't use. I think it was $100 cheaper at  around $289.

I wanted super quality sound and have the ability to fabricate so I made custom speaker panels in the doors. I didn't want to cut any holes or make any permanent modifications to the car. The panels fit under the the armrests where the carpeted section is and are completely removable If I ever want to undo it all. Because of the length of the doors, front and rear can be achieved by this one door panel. I have a hidden Alpine amplifier running a 2 JL Audio C3-650, and 2 C3-570's. I wanted to make everything appeared somewhat factory so I made polished speaker grilles, wrapped them in matching leather, and utilized some Narra wood in an access cover for the speakers crossovers. It was worth the time and expense for sure as I get so much enjoyment out of driving it around. Message me if you have any questions!

Hello Mike,

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
