The help files have excellent information on how to decode the Body Name plate, but I was looking for a bit more information in two areas (See: https://6364cadillac.ning.com/profiles/blogs/body-name-plate?id=654... )

I'm looking for some more info on the FW (= Fleetwood) Factory Identification code to better understand my 1963 Convertible's history. I think that the FW means that the car's body was built at the Cadillac Fleetwood Plant on West End Avenue (AKA Fisher Body Plant 18) in Detroit. From there, the body was shipped by rail 2 miles to the Clark Street Assembly (AKA Detroit Assembly) and the car was assembled. Both of these facilities closed in 1987.

Anyone know if my info is correct or have any additional info on manufacturing of these FW coded cars?

My car also has serval options that are not identified in the ACC code area of the plate. The car is coded EYK which decodes to:
    E = Soft Ray Tinted Glass
    Y = Six-way Power Seats
    K = Air Conditioning

The following items are optional equipment this car has that are not listed on the body name plate:
   AM/FM Radio (code F, the radio appears original, but could have been added later)
   Power Door Locks (code M, appear to be factory installed)
   Guidematic Headlight Control (code U, appears to be factory installed)

I have a convertible, so it came standard with Power Windows. (If not standard, the Power Window code is X). The items above don't seem to tie to any of the options packages.

Anyone know why these items would not have been listed on the Body Plate?

Thanks for any help,

The Body Name Plate only lists optional accessories defined as "body" options, but not other accessories. As an example: my 1964 Coupe de Ville the Build List includes: FVREYDKU, but only EYKV on the Body Name Plate (see pictures of both inserted at bottom).

The way I read it is options that require different body adaptions for that option. AC would be a good example. There are many options you would never see on the "Body Name Plate" The controlled differential (Option Code G) would be one that comes to mind. You also never see radio codes (R, or F, or FP) as I believe the dash assembly with ordered radio option, would be installed into the body, without any consideration of the car body, thus, nothing on the body name plate. Way back I thought every option on a car would be listed or noted somehow in an order group but that is not the case. I have started going th rough my 54 parts cars (and 5 drivers where I have the body plate) to try and figure out exactly which codes to appear and those that do not but have never gotten very far. What I probably can do is just list out every body code I have seen on the body name plates (I have saved them from the parts cars).
I do know looking at your list I have seen M and it is listed on the 1963 Model Parts List sheet I have (see below). I have never seen the radio (again, doesn't affect the car body), and don't hink I hgave seen the U for Guidematic, although in 1964 the Left fender was very different for guidematic cars as it had the pocket for the Guidematic Phototube ... but perhaps since it was an external panel not physically part of the core car body, maybe it is not considered a Body accessory. Items such as Power Door locks could have been dealer installed but that would be one of the hardest options to install at the dealer.

So to make a long story short, get the build list from GM if you have  not already obtained one. It will list everything came from the factory with. Just go to our Help Page and scroll down to GM Heritage Center for details.

Here is that 1963 Model  Parts List Body Name Plate page with decodes... I do not have the 1964 version.

NOTE FVREYDKU on my build list, but only EYKV on the Body Name Plate below it. (CLICK PICTURES TO ENLARGE)

I added this info to the Body Name Plate and included a 64 body plate with many accessories as another example.

I did go thru my 1963 and 1964 Body Plates from the parts cars I have brought in and came up qith the following:

1963: E, X, Y, S, K, T, M, V, V1, N
1964: E, X, Y, S, K, T, M, V, VA, N,R2, B

NOTE: I have pulled in 14 1963 and 40 1964 parts cars. Some of the very early tags were missing from my collection but may have pictures. If any of you look at yoru Body Plates and see other codes, let me know and I will add to my list.

Here is the example heavy loaded 64 body plate I added to the Help Page as an example:

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

-Samu

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
