Can someone tell me what color the hood hinges should be? I've seen both silver and gold cadmium plating colors on the cars. Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion Jason. I'll take a look under my dash to see I can find the correct size.

From the factory the hinges were gold cad, springs were black, and bracket at back and inner fender were black. 9/16" TR/UR stamped hex head bolts were gold cad. Nothing was silver cad under the hood that I have ever seen. The problem is 55+ years, bolts under the hood look like scorched earth.  Sometimes on the washers once you remove and flip over they look like nice and new like this...especially if they had a coating of undercoating:

Here's the bolt that came out with that washer... also nice and once you remove the tar/build up a pretty decent bolt.

Of course the best source for bolts is often inside the cabin under the dash... but you don't have all the bolt sizes and styles used under the dash. Most of the engine compartment washers on my 64 CDV came from under dashes.  The steering column brackets are a nice source for grade 8 gold cad TR stamped bolts:

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
