Im having a hard time locating the gear for the power vent window in my 64 Eldo. The existing one has 14 teeth and all I seem to be finding are ones with 17 teeth. Any suggestions?

Thanks

These are what I bought a couple of years ago, recommended by Jason. They work perfectly.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/124193882376?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkri...

Caddy Daddy has them.

The ones from Caddy Daddy and ebay have 17 teeth, mine have 14 teeth but I eventually found them elsewhere.

thanks

I went back & checked the gears I replaced a while back & yes, the originals have 14 teeth. I don't have any pictures of the steel replacement gears I installed so I can't say for sure how many teeth they have. The picture of the gears on the website have 17 teeth but could be a sample pic & not the actual part. All I do know is that the gears fit properly & mesh properly & the power vents work perfectly. The teeth on the steel replacement gears should not strip like the soft aluminum originals.

I installed the aftermarket gear on my left front vent. It opens and closes as it should but only opens to 45*.

I actually upgraded my car to power vents and noticed that the manual crank vents did open wider. I just assumed it was normal for the power vents to open less wide but don't know if the replacement gears are a factor there. The original gears in the regulators I received were trashed so I never had a chance to see how wide they opened with them. I estimate that my vents open to about a 105 degree angle. Is your right vent still using the factory gear? If so, how wide does it open? Here's a pic of mine opened as far as it goes.

Sorry. It opens to 90* not 45. My original passenger vent opens to about 105* as yours do Kurt. I'm pretty sure that I installed the aftermarket gear correctly but maybe not. Has anyone else had the same 90* result after installing the aftermarket gears?

Cheers

Jeff

The 17 tooth gears sold by HydroElectric that I installed and I believe Kurt open the window well past the 95 degree angle. I can opening it until it is pushing air back and at me like seen in Kurt's pictures.
You can find them on eBay as seen with Kurt's link, or on HydroElectric site at the links on our Parts & Service  Page.

Here is the HydroElectric entry with with links reposted:
Hydro Electric - www.hydroe.com
Convertible Tops and related supplies including Power Vent Window Gears: LH Gear,  RH Gear
Punta Gorda, FL 800-343-4261 941-639-0437

Unless HydroElectric has started selling a different gear as a replacement it should open the window up as seen in Kurt's picture.

I installed the same gear as H E sells. It seemed to only go in one way with no room for adjustment but it's possible I got it wrong. No idea.....! I'll have to take it out again and take a look. Thanks for the feedback.

Perhaps  you put the RH side on LH side and vice versa? You can look at the stock pictures for comparison when you pull them if not stamped L & R.

Perhaps; I did have a left and a right....Lol. I installed the one that looked like the one I took out. I'm not going to pull my car out until the end of March so I will report in when I get it figured out. Thanks for your help Jason!

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 13 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
