Can any give me some direction where to start. I repainted the bumper trim cover on the back but all those connection are plugs. I put in a shift lever .  So where do I go from here. Any help would be appreciated. M blinker in the fin still works along with the head light but no others in back. I also disconnected all light in back. Now when I turn my lights on the head light stay on but the fuse pops? I also installed a new light switch

Thanks

Yes the head light switch.

1) I disconnected the rear lights to single them out and see if I'm still blowing fuses which I am.

2) Tomorrow I will pull off the dash pad again and start from there. I will check to see if any of those wires on the light switch is grounded. Is there and relays ect ? I'm trying to following the wiring diagram off the fuse box and one power goes to the light switch and the other goes to something called a stop switch. What is this and where is it?

Thanks Tony

Where is the body feed? (Body right harness connector and body harness connector? I just pulled off the dash pad and took apart the light switch (its a pain getting that pin to release). I'm trying to trace back wires of the light switch. I will try your bulb system as I went thur bout 5 fuses so far.

Mark S has a great plan of action.

The main body feed runs down the left side of the car, under the sill panels. A smaller feed for the right side doors runs down the right side under the sill panels.

There is a disconnect under the trunk package tray, and then behind the left and right kick panel.

Does it matter what side wires from the bulbs go on in the fuse box? I hooked up the bulb and it burns brighter than the statue of liberty. I replaced the headlight switch , the headlight switch connector (I had another) and will begin to look at sill plates.

Thanks and more thought please  keep them coming.

Thanks so far.

The bulb dimming is from the rheostat on the headlight switch.  That is the dash lights dimming.

I suspect that a wire or 2 were crossed when you replaced the headlight switch plug.

Russ

I did not replace the headlight switch plug until after this happened and I match wire for wire as I had an old good ship harness. I understand that but if the rheostat is turn down the tester blub almost goes out. Do you think its in the wire that sends powder to the dash light?

Russ

Here something, when I turn the interior dimmer down the bulb almost goes out?

I bought another switch (cause I can & they are cheap) just to be sure and the same things happens. I will trace back my harness with rheostat wire and see where it leads.

Yes but maybe its on the dash line since the tail lights would not dim. The back lights would still have the full voltage correct?

What is the fuse that is popping?

25 amp Tail Light

Russ

I have everything apart...even some I did not want to. lol

1) When I press the brake pedal the light glows. If I disconnect the left side main harness connection and I press the brake the bulb won't glow.

2) If I turn the interior body rheostat on the light switch to off the blubs go off but still if I press the brake the light still lights.

Any thoughts

yeah a mechanic? lol

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks

'63 Eldorado trumpet horn + 2 standard horns restoration

Posted by Les Eastling on November 15, 2023 at 10:34am 1 Comment

My son, unbeknownst to me, had all three of the horns on our 1963 Eldorado completely restored. We had recently added the Eldorado trumpet horn to the two standard horns and the sound was not very good... we had heard good ones so we knew something was not right... but there was not much we could do to get better sound from the 3 horns.

There is a restoration service called The Horn Works who my son…
