Brakes on the 64 Fleetwood need some attention.

It stops and is perfectly safe, but they lack the confidence I'd like to have.

I've replaced the wheel cylinders, springs, rubber brake hose, and shoes, and backing plate. I did re use the old drums and I've only worked on the front brakes for the time being.

If the drums can't be turned for some reason, what aftermarket drums have any of you had luck with? I also have new bearings and seals to go in as well but haven't taken that project on yet.

Any other parts that I should be looking to replace in the front brake area?

Thanks all!

Mr. Robb,

Most comments on after-market drums here and on other forums have been very negative.  A general consensus seems to be that sourcing original drums which can still be re-surfaced is the best solution.  See, for example:

I don't know if Mr. Edge still has any in inventory.  If not, you may wish to check about his waiting list.

Somewhere I may still have a link to a small North American company which was casting and making quality replacement drums.  I'll see if I can find it.

You could always pull your back drums and check to see if they are candidates for re-surfacing.

Mr. Russ Austin may also have good used OEM drums.

Thank you! I’d seen some of the issues for quality drums. I’ll have to have them measured when it goes in for brake work.

I certainly don’t feel the need to change over to disc. I just need to get the drums in tip too shape! I appreciate the insight in Raybestos.

The new reman drums are junk. Either the adjuster hole is missing, drum is too far out of round to turn true, or the balancing weights interfere with the wheel being installed.

I do have 2 front original drums that have been turned, and 1 rear turned ready to go. I can get more turned as well.

Please email me at russ@thecadishack.com  if you want to inquire about them.

Unless subject to some harsh condition (e.g. outside in the weather with heavy corrosion, harsh breaking resulting in excessive or uneven wear, or physical damage to the drum causing it to warp) most drums can be turned. These are thick drums with a lot of meat on them. If yours turns freely and none of the above issues just have your machine ship turn yours. I have several sets of  rear drums only, or front drum & hubs, both unturned as pulled and turned. You can see them by going to my Facebook Parts Page at https://www.facebook.com/ClassicCadillacParts/photos, click Albums, see all and scroll down a few pages.

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
