The other day while taking my '64 out I decided to put the heat on, after about 5 minutes smoke stated to come from under the dashboard on the passenger side. It stopped after I turned the Comfort Control off. Does anyone have a suggestion where I should start troubleshooting the problem?

Pick up Cadillac Tim (Groves) 1964 Comfort Control Trouble shooting guide. He is listed in our Parts Suppliers Page. I believe Russ also sells them for Tim.   And of course you will want to have the shop manual.

I picked one up a few weeks ago and started to go through it. The guide is very detailed and well thought out. I next need to get a good vacuum gauge.

I had smoke come out of the dash once when I had my lights on, radio on and AC on at the same time. it happened because one connector on my ignition switch came lose causing it to arc,in turn the plastic piece on the back of the ignition switch & the coating on the wire began to burn from such a high demand from running all three electrical devices at the same time.

I did what Tony said, turned it on, smelled the burning, saw the smoke, found the source of the smoke ( grabbed the wire, it was hot as hell) took the switch out, squeezed the contact with a pair of vise grips ( making the connection tight again) back in business !!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. As soon as I can I'll get under the dash to see what's "cooking".

I'll let you know what I find out.
Now the the weather is better here in the northeast, I finally had a chance to get under the dash and I found the source of the smoke. The connector for the Confort Control Resistor had melted. I looks like someone tried clean the terminals once before with sandpaper. Now that the connection is clean and tight, no more smoke.

Bob I have a similar issue, probably many more but that is one of them. My connector looks like it has melted in the past and someone wrapped it up in tape. When the fan runs (currently runs even when the lever is in the OFF position, another one of my problems), the connector gets very hot. Was it as simple for you as ensuring a tight and clean connection?

Yes, I have the AC book, by Tim Groves. I'm an authorized distributor for his book. Same price as he sells them.  I include a spec sheet, as to where to locate the individual parts.

First you should get the Comfort Control Troubleshoot guide by "Cadillac" Tim Groves. You'll get step by step instructions on how to repair the entire system. I was able to get my Comfort Control system up and running with the help of the guide.

The smoke I had coming from under the dash turn out to be a a bad blower motor and a corroded connector. The high current draw of the blower motor in conjunction with the bad connector caused the wires to get very hot and melt causing the smoking condition. I hope this helps.

1963 RHS A/C kick panel - photos needed

Posted by SK on June 2, 2025 at 2:20pm 2 Comments

Could someone post front and back photos of the 1963 right-hand kick panel with A/C?

My car didn’t come with the original kick panels, so it's a bit of a mystery to me how I should cut the backing board and carpet to fit around the A/C.

Many thanks,

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…
