on the 63, cdv,, I'm almost to the point of deciding whether to take the 63 or 73 on cross country from MT to MS. last thing i need to address,, is the bouncing speedometer,,its not all the time,, sometimes its smooth as silk, sometimes its a 10 mph on each side. i dont reply need the speed gauge as i dont tear ass around, so is it possible to remove or detach the cable completely and cover the access until i can get it back on the jacks again...then fix the o rings or what ever the cause is,,
Just unscrew it at the speedometer.
if you can try lubricating the speedo cable as it feels like it is binding in its casing for the needle to be bouncing as it is
Should be worth a try
Your speedo gear O ring seal SB fine unless you are leaking trans fluid at that location so not the source of your bouncing needle
The cable or an issue with the speedo head binding I would be looking at
At some point you can examine the speedo head
Parts can always be lubricated in the speedo head and while there you can set your mileage to what ever you choose it to be for your own choice and needs
Looks like the cable has been worn down so that its not catching or is slipping. Neighbor suggested spedo gear at transmissiin output. Is thatva hard to come by part for hydramatic?
Call Fatsco for trans parts
What is worn down on the cable and which end are we talking about
The trans end of the cable SB square that slides into the trans speedo gear
Jason should have a speedo cable if that’s what you need
