While I have most of the fasteners mapped out and selling with new cadmium plating, for the top side stuff, there are nuts, bolts and washers, etc. on the underside I have not completely mapped out. For those that follow my parts page on Facebook you will see some of those posted in the coming weeks and months.

When I dismantle a parts car I generally group and bag fasteners so I can match up or confirm what went where later on.  The Turbo HydraMatic Starter is an oddball as it has 3 bolts with 3 different sizes where it it attached to the adaptor ring, with one going all the way through, with a nut on the other side. So you basically have 3 bolts, 3 split lock washers and 1 hex nut. I had been putting off installing this and confirming 100% until last night.

The good thing for my 64 Coupe de Ville is it serves as the test case when I am confirming new cadmium  plated fastener sets.  With the 12" tire cribs I now have lots of room to scoot around on my crawler and expect to spend a lot of time under there the next few months. I see a lot of things I want to address like that dripping rear engine seal, what appears to be a slight transmission pan gasket leak (maybe just needs retorqueing ... fingers crossed) and lots of general clean-up and again replacing the 160K+mile fasteners with freshly cad plated stuff.

So back to those Turbo HydraMatic Starter Bolts, etc., check out the picture below and specs:

See arrows pointing to actual starter bolts, nuts, washers:

And I always get a picture of the fasteners set:

And here is how they spec out:

(1) 3/8"-16, 1" Long hex bolt
(1) 3/8"-16, 2" Long hex bolt
(1) 3/8"-16, 2 1/4" Long hex bolt
(1) 3/8"-16 hex nut
(3) 3/8" split lock washers

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
