Keeping Forum Discussions on Target and Respectful of Others

A few suggestions for making our website easier to use:

- Post separate subjects on separate threads. That way we can concentrate on one topic at a time. Otherwise it becomes a jumbled mess.  If a completely unrelated new topic is posted in the middle of an unrelated discussion, it may be removed.  If you have a separate topic you need to discuss, then create a new post in the appropriate forum. Keep in mind that creating separate discussion topics allows us to stay on point, makes the discussions easy to follow, and better serves us as a future reference.
 
- Search our Help Page first when looking for info on a subject. There is a lot of information on that page.

- Use the Search box in upper right hand corner. Another way to find information already posted on the website.

- Use descriptive Discussions Titles. For example  Help Needed Testing Wiper Motor instead of Hey Ya'll, Need Some Help is going to allow the reader to immediately understand the content of the post and may make the difference between the person clicking the link and reading your post and contributing or just skipping over it. It also make search and find navigation much easier in the future.

- Send website tech issues to me via pm or email at [e-mail]  Posting a tech issue in the middle of an ongoing forum only makes the thread harder to follow. For example if you cannot delete a duplicate item, shoot me an email. 

- Use our Website Suggestion Box to make suggestions on how to improve the site.  I may change the name to Website Questions and Suggestions. So there's a suggestion from me regarding our Suggestion Box! :-)

- Be Mindful of our Public Audience
Many of us have gotten to know each other as friends, and as friends do we often pick at each other and use language that is not necessarily appropriate for a Public website with over 2000 members, and seen by thousands more.  Keep in mind that our site allows non-CLC and Chapter members to join in and enjoy our Chapter Site, however, that is a privilege and not a right. I try to keep things loose and friendly and I do not like to micro-manage posts. I am also really glad to see our website members becoming close enough to open up and pick at each other, and understand buddies often use colorful language, however, the occasional website onlooker might not understand the intent of such name calling, etc. With that said, I do encourage everyone to enjoy the camaraderie, share your knowledge, share your experience, but do it in a positive manner where someone from the outside looking in will feel welcome to jump in and join us.  Going forward, I will remove comments that are out of line.  Keep in mind we have a Inbox where we can message each other when we want to have private conversations.

There is not any printed Class 20 1963-1964 Cadillac - Authenticity Manual available. However we do have this website and especially the excellent  Help.

Help is a living breathing Authenticity Manual. Constantly being updated and better than any printed book, even though I would love a printed version in my bookshelf. Problem is when members fill discussions with information that does not belong there.

Imagine when a newcomer find his/hers way to the wonders of Help and starts to read about a procedure and seeing that its going off topic. Should the person abandon or keep reading hoping that it will go back to the topic? Abandon reading might make the person miss something important that was added on page 8, but everything from page 2 to 7 was not related to the topic. Keep on reading some might say, but quite frankly some comments are not worth reading.

I am as guilty as everybody else even though I have tried for the last 6 to 12 months to refrain from comment on off-topic threads.

I move that each and everyone takes his/hers responsibility and removes off-topic comments from threads within Help. Best way is to start a new "Discussion" and copy paste the good and relevant information into it before deleting the comment. Making sure to "Use descriptive Discussions Titles".

Please keep threads in Help as clean as possible. Add comments related to the topic and refrain from off-topic comments.

Please write instructions of your findings. Insert images and post it in correct forum. Jason will surely add your "Discussion" to Help and we can all benefit from each others knowledge.

I am not a moderator on this site. I do not intend to become one. I do not aspire to any position within the CLC or the 63/64 Chapter. I am just a CLC and 63/64 Chapter member that finds great pleasure in working on my car and reading about others work. Thanks for reading the above.
