I've reworked my tail/brake/backup lights on my 1963 Series 62 convertible, but the wire connectors from the trunk to behind the license plate are just not dependable. I've tried cleaning the leads, bending the leads, and a host of other cleaning and mechanical adjustments, but they just won't stay snug and electrically connected.

I'm looking for an replacement connector set. It looks like connectors similar to the original are not available anywhere. I suspect the best solution is either to hardwire or do a three prong connector set with the connectors in the trunk and the wires run through a rubber gasket to behind the license plate. Any thoughts on the best approach and what type of connector to use?

It's these connectors (pushed into trunk in photo):

Here's a picture with them in place behind the license plate:

If you don't mind splicing in ... on the trunk harness side I have VG trunk harness rubber push in grommet/connector with a good length of pigtail wire for each for $20.   I also have the complete trunk wiring harness for $45 in VG used condition, but you can splice and it would never be see as the wire runs under the trunk floor mat.
On the tail lamp/courtesy lamp side with the female connectors that push in to the rubber grommet/connector as seen in your 2nd picture, I have connectors with a good length of pigtail for $20 for the set of 2.  If you buy inners and outers I would plug together and make sure they have continuity.

I can ship any of this for $8 with 2 to 3 day priority to U.S. destinations.  If interested in going the VG used route, shoot me an email to jasonedge@nc.rr.com and let me know what you are interested in.

Just replace the terminals in the male connector. Those are the ones that expand and get loose.  I use a tiny jewelers screw driver.

I'm getting an error trying to add a file. Go to my facebook group to see how to remove the terminals.

Mark and Russ - Thanks for the tip and diagram on replacing the terminals. I just did it, and it did the trick!

Jason - Thanks for the offer on the parts, won't need them now, but I'm sure we'll be doing business soon enough!

Congrats, on the fix. Always better to repair what you have!

Just glad I can help out.

Edelbrock Carb Block off Plates

Posted by Chase on March 12, 2025 at 2:05pm 14 Comments

Hey guys,

I have installed the same Edelbrock carb and have done everything the same as Jason’s carb and intake project. In the spring and summer months the car starts, runs and idles great! In the fall and winter months on a cold start, the car starts awful and wants to die until it warms up. I have to keep my foot on the throttle until it warms up or it will idle just terrible and try to die. Once it’s warm, it runs fantastic! Whats going on here? I was thinking of removing the…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?
